how do i set it up??
Do i need to speak to the university?I need to start saving so I plan to save £2 a week to start with:beer:0 -
Thanks splishsplash,
My house is clean and tidy - my friends moan at me and call me monica - so I don't thik i need to worry about that. But I know what you mean. Cat is trained and hes very good.
Have registered with agencies but no one is coming back to me - and believe me i have phoned feel a bit like a stalker really! there just doens't seem to be much work at the moment.
| found a telephone job but I don't finish my current job in time and they won't let me do just sat and sunday. Think i may have found a cleaning job, which to be honest i prefer to bar work or waitressing, but im still waiting to hear.
lodger is my best option, i just don't want some dirty creepy guy living in my house - believe me some weirdos have landed on the doorstep....
Thats sounds awful and i know its import to keep my house, but it important to not end up chopped up in pieces in the freezer too...
I need to start saving so I plan to save £2 a week to start with:beer:0 -
Something that might be worth thinking about...
Depending on where you are £50 per month seems very low for renting a room. Even if it was a small room you might be looking at £75-100pcm in even the cheaper areas. People may be wary of even looking because it's priced so low.
Also, until you get a lodger, don't forget that you can get a 25% discount on your council tax as you live alone. If you get a (full time) student in, you can carry on with this discount.
Hope this helps.

I'm sure that won't happen:eek: :rotfl: I can imagine it's not the nicest prospect in the world, opening your home to a stranger, but if you get that cleaning job, you wouldn't be spending a huge amount of time at home anyway, so it might work out very well.lodger is my best option, i just don't want some dirty creepy guy living in my house - believe me some weirdos have landed on the doorstep....

Wouldn't you get references to check from lodgers
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

For a small room in a 4 bedroom house here in Dublin, we were charging 250 euro (about 180 sterling) per month about 3 yrs ago. So I'd say you could probably charge more than you are (depending on the area). I'd suggest looking at what other people are charging.
I just want to add that for Dublin that was cheap. Here you'd be very lucky to find anywhere so cheap, and a 1 bedroom flat here would generally cost around 800 euro per month (approx 600 sterling) at the very least.
Why charge only £50 a month for rent if you're paying £457 a month in mortgage? If they're using the house equally, they should pay half what you do. If not, then maybe 1/3.0 -
And if you're uncomfortable having a man living in the house with you, why not specify that you're looking for a female housemate only.0

Do you really only spend £30 a month on food? Because if so I'm sure you've got lots of useful tips for the rest of us.0

Hi brunettegirl
Definitely take a trip to www.moneysupermarket.com and review your gas / elec. I have a two bed flat, live alone, and I pay £32 a month for BOTH with Scottish Gas. I know it's not a good time to switch as prices are going up, but you could at least look into it as you are paying way over the odds there.
Also, there are some good deals on Quidco for opening savings accounts - £20 with A&L and £20 with HSBC. That's £40 for doing nothing, and as it's a savings account, no credit check. Open the accounts, get the money, close the accounts.
Change your bank to First Direct and bag yourself an other £100. If you can get a credit card with your history - and DO NOT SPEND ON IT - get another £41 for getting a Goldfish card with Quidco. Cut it up as soon as you get it and do not use it. Get another £27 (I think) with a PO credit card - again, cut it up as SOON as you get it so you don't lose it.
Lots of money to be had in Quidco at the moment for spending nothing of your own. You could pay the arrears of your utilities at least.
You don't mention anything about internet / phone / mobile? Do you have these?
Your water is nearly TWICE what I pay at the moment - are you on a meter? Ask to be reviewed. I pay £12.20 a month (they took me down from £15 as they were charging too much) - I have a full bath every other day and do a couple of loads a washing a week, so I don't scrimp on water!
You seriously only spend £30 a month on food?? Seriously??! You need to look at your budget in terms of all the things you've missed out - phone, internet, birthdays, christmas (things that you do have to spend some money on) - to see what the shortfall really is. Martin's budget spreadsheet is useful for that. If you don't budget for ALL expenses, you will still be short, even if you make the £1083 you need.
HTH - let us know how you get on.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
I don't think i would be able to get another bank account - im not sure though will look into it.
YEs im on a water metre and its a lot less now than it used to be.
Phone is on the list
As for birthdays and xmas ha! i either use freebies ive recieved and do car boots to get extra money to pay for it.
My internet is free, i use works connection, which we are allowed to do, cos we log on remotely from home ect ect.
Yes I REALLY do spend £30 a month on food, i have that one down to a fine art, i freeze lots of things, i only buy what i need, and i get various vouchers from websites, i have a clubcard and get extra money from that. I bake a lot, so its cheaper to make my own cakes/biscuits ect rather than buy them.
I know what time to go to the supermarket when they reduce everything, in fact most of the stuff in the freezer is reduced i think. Its the only thing i have been able to do to save any money.
I normally get given asda vouchers for birthday and xmas, so I use trhem to stock up, my friends works for avon and gives me lots of freebie stuff, i always send off for shampoos, ect ect off freebie sites, and take coupons to department stores for makeup stuff - although i don't wear a lot anyway.
Will check out qodouo though thanks

Do you really mean £50 a month for the lodger? Or is it a typo? I'd be scared you wanted to chop me up for the freezer if the price seemed too low.

Is it not possible to get rid of car and get a cheaper one?0
