How much can I save in 2012 challenge

HI
re the 2nd job, don't worry about your current employer its tough if you need more money and they can't give you regular extra work, they will have to cope or offer you evening work.
Could you look at having a foreign student this pays very well and isn't constant.
Good luck0 -
If you can clear the debts on the electricity and gas with amazon/car boot sale money (just as an eg) you could look to switch to a cheaper provider. Use quidco and you'll get more back - I recently switched to British Gas and got £60 with Quidco. In turn, you can chuck that £60 at something else.

Could you offer accommodation to a student? Are there any foreign language schools in your area that might be interested? Even if you get less for the room than you'd like, it would still help.
As for Ebay, unfortunately there are scammers out there but most people are fairly good. I have over 400 feedback and have only encountered a couple of people who acted badly. It might be worth checking into again, or another site like e-bid. In what way did they scam you? Were you buying or selling? There are ways of being more cautious.
I'd also suggest pigsback.com to get points to turn into vouchers for yourself. They cover UK, Ireland and Canada now. I get boots vouchers, as well as ones for mobile phone credit. It's an interesting site and a good way to bring in a little more money.
It's a pity that your work aren't more understanding about you looking for weekend work. Do they pay you for overtime? Maybe they would be willing to come to some arrangement with you if you made yourself available on weekends, instead of looking for a second job? Do they understand your situation?
Do you have any hobbies you can turn into work from home? For instance, making jewellery or craft items, etc. Sometimes it's possible to buy items cheaply (such as ebay, shops, etc) and resell for more on ebay. Some items are poorly described/photographed or have spelling errors, and if you do a better job you can attract more buyers.
BTW I meant to ask - you gave £80 as an amount for food and petrol. Is this per month?

Not possible to take a break in the mortgage as I haven't had it long enough.
I do intend to use the ct money next month to half between both gas and electric.
Thanks for the link by the way have registered with that
As regards the lodger, my rooms are both the same size, it is a failry small house, i have adverts on all the usual sites, so i will just have to see if i can get lucky, i only have it on for 50 a month and that includes bills - i thought that was quite reasonable, some people don't like the fact i have a cat, but he's going nowhere
I need to start saving so I plan to save £2 a week to start with:beer:0 -
Do you have a hospital near by? They advertise rooms to rent for student nurses, trainee radiographers etc. They will have a housing officer who can take the details.

Does it matter that i don't speak another language? How would we communicate?
Yes 80 is a month on food and petrol, i thought that was quite low, my car costs 50 a month in petrol.
I did think my utilities were fairly low - are they really high? but i though because the prices had gone up again there was an article about staying where you are? TBH i have never changed supplier since i moved in, i worked for both companies at different times and i got too talk to lots of customers that got messed about with switching over it seemed to take months to sort it out, is it better now?
They charge at the hospital to put cards up and i have to do it between mon and friday as thats when the guy is there, i haven't manged to get to that side of town yet, my work is miles away so not enough time at lunch
I need to start saving so I plan to save £2 a week to start with:beer:0 -

You don't need to like them / communicate with them just grit your teeth and bear them... they can pay your mortgage for you which you can't do...
It maybe a hassle but dealing with debt collectors at your door, trying to pay one credit card with another, getting repossessed and finding somewhere else to live is a bigger hassle0 -
Hi Brunettegirl,
At the moment, you're finding it tough because your income isn't enough to cover your basic SOA. There are lots of other expenses that you don't list, so the reality is even more of a shortfall every month.
You need to generate some extra income. If you could get an evening job waitressing or barwork, and work for a few hours most days of the week for a month or two, then you could accumulate enough to pay off the lowest credit card, freeing up £30pm to throw at the next card, thereby doubling the repayment on it. If you could keep up the extra job for another couple of months, it would clear the cards and give you a little cushion so that things wouldn't seem so bleak. The advantage of something like waitressing is you can make extra through tips and also maybe free food...
If you can get a lodger in as well as an evening job, then you'd really clear things very fast. Even a very low rental would help, but I would charge half utilities on top of the rental - it's not a great idea to include utilites in the rent, at least until you see what kind of usage they will rack up. Is your house well-presented to prospective lodgers? (Sorry, that sounds awful, but I don't mean it to!) I mean, is it shiny clean, uncluttered, not an excess of pictures and posters etc around, no piles of papers etc. Is the cat trained to use the litter, the cat litter scrupulously clean and cat bowls sited discreetly? All these things may help in getting someone in to cut your costs. (Again, really really sorry if I sound like a biatch, I'm just trying to help, honest!)
If you could do these two things even for six months, you could well clear the credit cards and arrears on your gas/electric, and start ploughing money at the windows. You'd really start to turn things around very fast.
Best of luck, keep us posted.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.
