For is it not written, O seekers of culinary enlightenment ...
5 tablespoons of orange juice
3 tablespoons of vinegar
2 tablespoons of sherry
2 tablespoons of soy sauce
2 tablespoons of water
1.5 tablespoons of cornflour
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 tablespoon of tomato puree
Mix the cornflour and water in a cup. Put all the other ingredients into a small pan. Heat gently. Add the conflour mix and stir continuously, to stop it sticking and going lumpy. When it reaches the desired consistency, take it off the heat.
You can adjust this to your taste by adding sugar to make it sweeter or vinegar to make it sourer. The quantities given should make enough sauce for 500g of chicken for sweet & sour chicken, which should serve 3-4 people.

fairly basic one i make - tin of pineapple chunks in juice, 3 tbsp tom puree, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 3 tbsp soy sauce, 1tbsp vinegar - tbh the quantities are a guesstime, as i just tend to just chuck it in a bowl, until it looks/tastes right - sometimes i like it sweeter, or more tomatoey, etc. - also depending on the juice/pineapple ratio in the tin, i sometimes add water to make it more liquid, or a few bisto granules if theres loads of juice and it needs thickening - or if i really need to bulk it out, i add a tin of chopped toms instead of the pureer - its all a guessing game really lol

It is very easy making sweet and sour sauce at home, I learn that from a friend from Hong Kong. She told me this is how they make it in Hong Kong.
All you need is:
1) Ketchup
2) Vinegar
3) Sugar
4) Water
I don't have the correct measurement but I put a few Tbsp of ketchup in the pan, add a few Tbsp of water, then add a little bit of vinegar and sugar to taste (just don't add too much to begin with and add a bit more if it is not enough.)0 -

Hi has anyone got a recipe for a low fat sweet and sour sauce please. I have looked at a few recipes, but I am wondering if anyone makes their own which they can recommend.
It is to go with chicken. My son loves the Uncle Bens jar mix, but I am now trying to be good and make all my own sauces.
Any recipes greatly appreciated.0 -
