 Hi all,
Im fumming!!
BT made a mistake recently by not telling me that I was paying for calls redirected from my landline to my mobile, (apparently they are supposed to tell you when you speak to them).. yesterday I received a letter advising me that in effect Im paying .. Anyway to keep the story short.....................I called them today to tell them that I hadnt been made aware of this until the confirmation letter arrived.. and for the last 8 days I have been paying mobile rates for all of my redirected calls  !!!!!!!!An operator called me back, and told me that he was looking into my complaint, and in order to do so it would take a couple of days to find the recording of my conversation with the operator!!!
Now correct me if im wrong, but isnt it against the law for any company to record your conversation, without telling you beforehand????usually you get a recorded message telling you of their intention to do so, but not with BT.........Of course in this instance im glad they have, cos I want a FULL refund and a SUBSTANCIAL gesture of goodwill.. in the meantime, Ive cancelled everthing and switched companys

yes they do have to inform you but it doesnt need to be a recording on the telephone call, in fact it desnt even have to be verbal.
somewhere in their literature there will be a message stating calls will/may be recorded

BT,A**seholes as far as im concerned, they try and say also that they dont pass your number on to anyone, utter B**ocks! my gran was getting nuisance calls (SALES) and we phoned BT,changed the number AND registered with the TPS,within a week she was getting them again,BT either dont have any control over thier phone numbers or they just lie to people, its about time they lost thier monopoly over line rental. ive no time for them!0

they advise, or used to, on their IVR that calls may be monitored for quality etc purposes. No one has control over numbers....sales people put number ranges into autodiallers and wait for them to be answered. It is actually the offence of the company that dials your gran and if you obtain the company name and as much details and advise them that you are registered with TPS, they will quickly hang up - some of them apologise first! but then pass the details on to TPS as these are the companies that need to be fined. Not BT, in this instance.0

I think i read some where recently that it wasnt necessary for both parties to know that they were being recorded,as long as one was aware that was legal.PF.0

Well the one doing the recording would obviously be aware!0

hmmm just out of interest...who did you think would be paying for the calls???!!!
there's no such thing as a free lunch....if you divert mobile to mobile, one gets to pick up the cost of the call too.....0 -

Have to agree with you. I also registered with TPS only to receive a call from Canada selling me some form of phone service. They said BT had passed my number onto them. I have recently changed my calls to Tesco from Bt and now just pay the min line rental fees. Be warned that if you are in credit with BT on your monthly payments they will NOT inform you or reduce your paymnets unless you request it. I was told this by a BT cust sales advisor when i changed to Tesco home phone. BT really don't know what they are doing. They called me to demand payment of a bill i hadn't received and to tell me ther was no DD set up on my account. I was looking at an active DD set up on my banking web site in fact the woman who called me literally said the words you are a liar there is no DD set up on your account. I got one hell of an appology out tof them, I personnaly was quite pleased they record all calls. Useless piece of info but if you live in NI all you incomming and out going calls are scanned and listened into by BT and have been for years. You always hear the click, not so with NTL.0 -

Hello ADAM001
Did you know that the TPS can take 28 days to become fully active? You mentioned that within days of registering with the TPS.......the sales calls continued. After 28 days these calls should stop.
If your gran gets any sales calls after 28 days, she should write down the name of the company and caller and then report them to the TPS.
