I'm following up on Edinburghlass's EntroPay tip. I just applied for an account and it seemed to go through OK, but then I got an email requesting proof of ID - scans of debit card, driving licence and bank statement. I've now provided all that and hope the account becomes fully authorised.

My Ryanair flight bill had been £160, but when the time came to pay this shot up to £190 with a £10 fee added on for each of the three people in my party. Going through EntroPay, I should only have to pay the original £160.

So it is well worth doing - but be aware you have to provide this extra proof of ID and they charge you a fee of around 5 per cent to move your money from your bank account to EntroPay.

  • The german court stopped ryanair from charging customers additional fees on their credit card on the internet. Ryanair has been taken to court by the german consumer organization ( Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverbands). Ryanair has till the end of this mounth to go back to court in germany.
The reason for all this is to get more transparancy on the internet, so consumers should not be tricked and just pay for the sum they see.
This would be a great improvement to all transactions for the consumer, but maybe not for the seller :-)

I made a spelling mistake in my first comment, and found more information(in german , please translate with google translate.):

I had to leave the forwardslashes fs and dots out since i am new to this forum, sorry

I once had fun during a thunderstorm (and earned a free bottle of wine) by rewriting a restaurant menu in East Germany that had been translated by Google.
(I remember having to deal with a type of fish called a "Sander" which we don't have in the UK - with the possible exception of a river in Norfolk).

Am I right in thinking that the Germans were already paying lower charges than those of us in "rip off" Britain?

did you also know (i'm doing a dummy comparison check in) that if you have an infant, you can't check in online. swindling barstewards

You also can't checkin for a return flight 14 days before it departs. This means whilst your away for your 2+ week break you have to find somewhere out there to checkin online, print the pass or forkup for desk checkin.

Its actually from 15 days prior to your flight so you can check in for your return flight before you leave for a 14 day break.

For all of the moaning on here, Ryanair are losing money at the moment.;)
  • I do not need a visa electron card or other currently advertised accounts and credit cards to avoid Ryanair’s extra credit card charges/fees, if I had the facility to pay for the product I buy by cash or another option without paying extra fees on the credit card. Changing accounts, waiting for approval, passing on all my personal information again, costs money, time and is just tricking me into another deal.
But Ryanair and now more other companies do not offer the cash or other facilities without extra charges anymore. It is not negative for the consumer not to have the cash payment option, but it’s not fair, only to be able to buy the product with added extra charges!!!
This is why Ryanair has been taken to court by the German VZBV, where the judge ruled, that the praxis of adding these charges is illegal. The consumer should have the right of buying a product without paying extra/hidden charges. Read more on the website of the
Federation of German Consumer Organisation including public court order:

This has now changed. I managed a few days ago to check in online for a flight with a return about 18 days later. Also, I was able to check in online for an infant. What I find disgraceful is that they charge you £40 for having an infant sitting on you lap, but the infant can't have any hand luggage! so what are those £40 for? For their profit pot, clearly.
