Just be wary that SP3 RC is timebombed, it is set to expire after 3 months of its release, not sure when it was .0

SP3 will be released long before the original RC expires I hope.Winnings

You'd think so wouldn't you, still it's not a given.
Reading into it a bit more it says that you don't have to install SP1 or 2 first which implies that you had to install SP1 before going to SP2; which may explain a few probs I've had in the past! You can install SP2 without SP1 right?

That's what I thought, for a moment I thought I was going mad.....aardvarkuk wrote: »Yeah as sp2 supercedes sp1 and includes sp1 aswell.0 -
Reluctantly I have SP3 on mine, I had no other choices at the time as my SP2 got corrupted and even a repair wouldnt help.
Rest assured that as with SP2 or SP1, we will all have SP3 installed without much choice eventually. The same can be said about Vista, as much as I hate Vista, I know its inevitable that we will all be forced into upgrading to it at some point in time.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Apologies if this has already been posted, I did do a search but the posts on here are so prolific that I can't keep up with them.0 -

i installed it yesterday, i just went to update center, it scanned my pc as usual, and came back with do you want to install Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate, i presume that is the service pack 3, not to sure what the release candidate on the end means.Take every day as it comes!!0 -
A release candidate is exactly what the name implies: software that is potentially finished. It's not intended for general use, but barring minor alterations it is essentially ready....not to sure what the release candidate on the end means.
However, once the final version is released, you will have to uninstall the release candidate in order to obtain it, even if they're internally identical.0 -
With Service Pack 3 for Windows XP just over the horizon, we've managed to get our hands on the internal schedule for the release of the highly anticipated update to the aging operating system. As you can see in the list below, most of the stages will occur before the end of the month, though forced automatic updates won't land until June. This delay should give system administrators an ample amount of time to prepare for the upgrade or simply come up with an excuse for when things go awry.
- April 14, 2008: Support is available for the release version of Service Pack 3 for Windows XP
- April 21, 2008: Original Equipment Manufacturers, Volume License, Connect, and MSDN and TechNet subscribers
- April 29, 2008: Microsoft Update, Windows Update, Download Center
- June 10, 2008: Automatic Updates
