Anyone Using XP SP3?

Just general questions really. Is it stable and are there any performance improvements?
Or to put it another way, shall I install it or await the release due mid this year?

Wait until it's released. The performance improvements will be negligible.

i tried it last dec and was much more responsive and faster. Then came the freezing and booting up problems. Fortunately I was able to roll everything back to sp2

Thanks for the replies. I suppose someone has got to give them a go so I think I'll put it on the second PC and see what gives. It would be nice to be paid for testing out the often buggy MS releases though.............

Zahc, I believe every purchaser of MS products should get a free t-shirt saying "I'm a Microsoft beta tester"

Try 2 different s/w packages instead of one? This is similar to what i used. http://www.horizondatasys.com/169614.ihtml
http://www.eazsolution.com/en/download_eazfix.php (is the one I used)

Not sure what happens when the trial period runs out though?

  • This is from Microsoft's site:
"Windows® XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system." (My italics)

Be nice to find out what the new functionalities actually do & where they are hidden.

Amen. It's not very helpful of MS to state
............a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system.
when presumably there are security inprovements etc. I was going to say they're not exactly selling it to the public but I suppose it will be pretty much mandatory to incorporate it to continue getting support for XP *sigh*.
