I've had my money significantly slashed last month. I can barely meet my essential bills. They reckon they have overpaid me to the tune of £5k!!
I know for a fact i gave them all the correct details.
And the Government wonder whhy lone parents stay on benefits.
Anyway as a journalist I can't write a story about myself, but I would love to hear from any famillies in Brent, Barnet, Camden, Harrow or Westminister who have been duped by the whole system.
If you're willing to talk about your experience for a feature I would like to write, please PM me.
ThanksThird time lucky on WW I hope :j

Um
had my new 06/07 slip which says i will be getting less than last year. it has gone down slightly.
My wages haven't risen and my rent has gone up in line with inflation let alone the gas rises that happened.
Don't they increase the tax credits system according to indflation???
Carli0 -
Increases in Tax credits elements for 06/07 avg about 3.5% to 4%.
Your entitlement for 05/06 may have been calc on 04/05 income due to 05/06 being less than £2500 more than 04/05. This means that in the new tax year 06/07 it will be based on 05/06.
Everybodies circumstances/income will be different, call the helpline and ask.0 -

A quick update and thanks again to DazzerG. I made the request under the data protection act 1988, which arrived the other day and what a shock it was too! I can't believe the clanger they dropped in with it :mad: a total strangers highly sensitive, confidential and personal details consisting of;
Full name, address, home telephone number, D.O.B, National Insurance Number. All personal bank details, including bank account number and sort code, employment details, employers address, no of hours worked, details of earnings, employee ref number and payroll number.
I've been in contact with the person whose info I received and they were justifiably horrified and upset...not only do they claim she has been overpaid £5,000 and want it returned, but they are now posting out all her personal info!
I've spent the night writing a letters, one to the lady, so she can use it to complain and she's asked me to post her the private docs back, which i will do. Another to HM Revenue & Customs, asking them what the heck sort of operation they are running (not in those words but you get the gist of it) I think they have probably breached every rule in the Data Protection COP21, it's not just an error thats occured here but one with such serious and potentially dangerous consequences had the documents been received by someone less than honest. ie identity theft.
After all that, still none the wiser as to how false info has got into our file. My complaint letter has been brushed off, the directors hotline said they can't help anymore, next stop MP

Hi
has anybody got an address to write to regarding the requests under the dpa. Is it just the normal address or a different one i want as much evidence over these people as possible.
Obviously it isn't good enough for them that it has taken over a year and a half to get a reply out of them, my mp knows and they haven't replieed to him either. Surely someone must control what they are up to!

My friend has just told me that she received a letter re her award and they have told her that she has been overpaid by £6k which they will be deducting from her this year.
There is no way that she canafford for her credits to cease it will not be worth her going to work.
Anyhow what I want to know is that how can they have calculated it wrong when she gave them all the correct info that they requested!?
Surely if there is an error then the error is theirs!!! and surely they can not expect her to repay this in her current situation because of an error THEY HAVE MADE!
This is down to their crap administration.
She has been given an appeal form or something or other which I am going to try and help her fill out tonight.
Does she have any chance of winning this appeal!? tax credits are supposed to be a help but this has turned into more of a hinderance for her.
Please give me some advise so that I can try to help her.MFWB

If £6K was in one tax year, then they'll deem her to have been aware that an overpayment was being made, its woudl be pretty hard not to notice it was wrong by that amount.
Has she checked the front of the award notices to see what details they show ?, if that's wrong then she should have noticed and has very little chance of getting it written off.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -

But she gave them her sal details, they did the calculation, which was what she got on her award notice so how would she know that was wrong.
The amount they awarded her is the same amount they confirmed no difference so I cant see how she would have known.MFWB
