With it not being an offence as bad as speeding etc (IMO) is this going to severely affect my premiums? As I am just approaching my 2nd NCB and as a 21 year old male it is expensive enough as it is. And to make things worse the copper delighted in telling me that he had seen hands free kits for my phone as cheap as £4.. Nothing like them getting a little dig in at me is there
Any help would be good, and before you reply yes I know it was my own fault
Well Indie - I guess you are a 21 yr old who has had one of those frightening moments in life when you did something you shouldn't have done, got caught and have recognised what a fool you were. And I don't think you need it reinforcing - all you really want is some of us older more worldly wise to pick up your question and using our experience of life they and give you an answer. Hopefully those having a dig will re-read your original post, pick out the help you were asking for, see that you realise you goofed and have a heart and advise you of what they have experience of. I have no experience of it so cannot advise but the best advice I can give you tonight is - whatever will happen will happen so ring the insurance, tell them straight away and hope for the best - and whatever transpires - it will pass. Sorry for all these other comments which were not sought by you and all the best.

Well foolishly I answered my phone and hung up after a minute only to see blue lights in my rear view mirror. Yes they saw me and I had no argument.
Well basically I have 7 days to produce my driving license (both parts) and 28 days to pay the £60 fine. Now they said that my license will be sent to the DVLA and basically I will incur three penalty points.

nothing you can do except make sure your phone is switched off next time your in the car... people have been warned and warned about this and still its happening ... take this as a warning next time you could kill someoneThose we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,

Unfortunately i think it will affect your insurance. The best thing to do is ring straight away to find out. The fortunate thing is that you have learned from this and will in the future be a safer driver.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

You'll get a CU80 endorsement. As it is a relatively new style of endorsement you'll find a lot of variation in insurer's attitudes to it, especially if you have other convictions. if you shop around at your next renewal it probably won't result in much of an increase, if at all.
Nomally you would only have to disclose this at the next renewal but it makes more sense to do it now and not run the risk of forgetting do to so down the line.0 -
I put my mobile phone in my boot so I'm not tempted to answer it. Works for me.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

David69, I'm sure you been driving on the roads at the same time as me!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0

perhaps those who feel the need to answer their mobile in the car should consider installing a hands free kit in their car, or at the very least buy a good quality bluetooth headset, at least then you answer automatically and tell the person to call back later without handling the mobile.
Its a simple solution that has been around for years and at least lessens the risk whilst driving. It's also a lot cheaper than getting caught and prosecuted.====0 -

Absolutely agree there is no excuse for answering the phone whilst driving, blue tooth headsets are dirt cheap and you can always divert the phone to voicemail which is what I do when my car with a fully fitted hands free kit is in for a service. No call is so important that it can't wait a few minutes.0
