Caught on phone behind wheel! Will insurance shoot up??

Hi there,
Well foolishly I answered my phone and hung up after a minute only to see blue lights in my rear view mirror. Yes they saw me and I had no argument.
Well basically I have 7 days to produce my driving license (both parts) and 28 days to pay the £60 fine. Now they said that my license will be sent to the DVLA and basically I will incur three penalty points.
With it not being an offence as bad as speeding etc (IMO) is this going to severely affect my premiums? As I am just approaching my 2nd NCB and as a 21 year old male it is expensive enough as it is. And to make things worse the copper delighted in telling me that he had seen hands free kits for my phone as cheap as £4.. Nothing like them getting a little dig in at me is there
Any help would be good, and before you reply yes I know it was my own fault

Will it affect my insurance straight away or just when the renewal comes? If I was to call them and tell them straight away. I looked for renewal quotes for August when I get 2nd NCB (before the points) and it was down to about £350 for a 21 year old male, 2 years NCB, for a 1.3 fiesta. How much is it likely to shoot up by, as I struggle to make ends meet as it is.

Rather than ask for supposition and invite crtiticism for your misdemeanour why not just ring the insurers and get the answer from those best placed to provide it?
BTW using a mobile phone is actually imho a matter worse than speeding. Have the discussion with my wife who was hit by a driver on a phone 2 years ago and had her car written off and suffered injuries she has only just recovered from:mad:0 -

I find your reply quite curt, fyi it wasn't a conversation I literally answered said i was driving and put the phone down, thanks for the advice none the lessLive for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -
most insurers will not increase premiums for an SP30 if you have just one or maybe even two. However, this wont be an SP30. You may not consider it as bad as an SP30 but it is.
Either way, if you dont tell the insurance company you are in breach of the contract and in the event of a claim they could refuse to pay out.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). So am I to tell them straight away then I assume. I suppose I am best to just call them tommorow. /Sigh/. I know it was my own fault but I am really kicking myself. Thanks anyway guys

So you had a conversation then. You have a choice dont answer the phone and concentrate fully on the important task of driving safely or answer it and run the risk of getting caught and getting a fine?
You know it is wrong and the obvious reason you have asked the question is to see if you can get away with having to tell your insurance company to try and save money.

Hi
I also got caught last month after taking an important call(no excuse tho) i have had to pay £15 to my insurance company as it is too late to add it to my monthly payments as it finishes in march and the lady at the insurance advised that this year's extra no claim bonus will mostly negated by the points so max i should have to pay is extra £50 this year (so you can try and compare i will have 4 years no claim bonus in march and drive a 1.6 02 reg car):j Stopped smoking - 2nd Jan 09:j0 -
No call is that important that it warrants risking your life and much worse, the lives of other innocent people around you. There is good reason for the laws being introduced.
Luckily I'm not a victim of, nor do I know anyone who has been a victim of an accident involving use of a mobile phone, but I fully support the law making an example of those who think it's ok to take 'just one call'
If it's that important, the person calling you will either ring back or leave a message. People coped perfectly well in the past without being constantly available.
and no, I'm not some old has been  I'm in my early 30's and have a mobile, do an important job, etc, but I'm not willing to risk others safety for it
this isn't intended to be a personal attack on any comments postred above, this is my opinion on something that doesn't seem to be taken seriously by a lot of people behind the wheel nowdays - lorry and van drivers seem to be particularly fond of doing it!This year, I will mainly be kicking some serious money saving butt!0
