Just going to suggest if you can try a celing clothes airer? I put my stuff on it and it drys overnight. I got it from here:-
http://www.castinstyle.co.uk
& the council kindly put it up for me, using the handyman scheme.
I have a washer/dryer but never use the drying part as it eats electricity.
I also use the loan scheme and last time I applied they have a box that says something like household upkeep and I tick that.
Best wishes

Hi you can claim as your Income Suppot but instead of saying you have a Tumble dryer, say you got a Machine Machine/Tumble Dryer, go down to job centre and ask for form, what have you got to lose and you wont have to pay it back, not great but any help from them would help you. Take Care Grant0

With anyone on a low income and not able to afford to replace appliances when they break down, Domestic & General is a life saver.
Insure your appliances, i have my Tumble Dryer, Washing Machine, Fridge Freezer and Cooker on it. The cost £9.95 per month, that's £2.50 per week! Peace of mind.
If they can't fix your item they'll replace it with a brand new appliance.0 -

OK Here is what you can claim if you receive Income Support, Jobseekers (Income Based) or Pension Credit: -
CRISIS LOAN
You can request any item you like but you must need the item as a result of an emergency or disaster and the item or items must be needed to prevent a serious risk to your health and safety. Looking coldly at it, you are unlikely to get an award for a tumble drier via a crisis loan.
Budgeting Loan
This is a little easier to get. You simply say how much you need and tick any one of 8 or 9 categories. You then rpovide a little more information about dependent children, bank details etc and a decision can then be made. There will be a maximum that you can get by way of a Budgeting Loan and this depends on your circumstances. Also, if you already owe Social Fund any money, any possible award may be subject to a reduction. Obviously for a loan you pay this back.
Community Care Grant
This is a discretionary grant and the hardest to get an award for. You must receive one of the qualifying benefits listed at the top of this post. Then you must fall into one of 5 categories. One of the categories is that you are part of a family under exceptional pressure and that the award for an item would ease that pressure on you AND your family. If you needed a tumble drier because a person in the family home had a health problem and as a result you have additional washing, then it is entirely possible you could get an award. You would have to show that there was no reasonable alternative (like a launderette very close by or that you have a health issue that would mean you couldn't handwash) and that the item would have a significant role in reducing your exceptional pressure. Any savings over a certain level would be taken into account as would any previous awards for the same item either by a grant or crisis loan.
The thing I have to advise is to make the application anyway and if refused, ask for a review. Do this in writing if you can. If the review does not result in an award, ask for a further review by IRS. Quite often they will go on to make an award.
Hope this is helpful.:rotfl:0 -
Sorry, I don't agree with encouraging people to clog up the system with flimsy claims. Fair enough if OP wants to make a claim and see (although you really are wasting your time if you don't have a health issue or unsettled way of life) but reviews and IRS should not be utilised just for the sake of it IMHO. I don't say this to be judgemental of OP but for everyone who takes things further with virtually no grounds it only makes it harder/longer wait for the more needy cases. The 'try it anyway approach' rarely has any bearing on how the system actually works, it's not like asking someone out ie the more you persist they will eventually cave in!"I always pass on good advice. I would never encourage people to make claims just for the sake of it but, if a person really believes they meet the criteria for any benefit I do believe they should make the claim. As far as reviews and IRS are concerned, all letters issued after decisions clearly state that the review process is available and I can see no reason why anybody should be discouraged from using it if they believe they should have had an award (although many don't).0
