They will probably tell you to use your radiators. If it was something more serious like washing machine etc. then they might loan you the money, but not a community care grant.

A tumble dryer will not be seen as an essential item therfore you'd be very unlikely to get any type of funding to replace one - least of all a grant.

I would agree with the above, unless you have someone in your house with a disability that leads to an above average amount of washing to be done. In this case, you may qualify for a small loan.

Have you tried your local Freecycle, or can friends help out for a short while? x

Extremely doubtful. CCGs are hard to get anyway for essentials, a friend just tried to claim for a fridge as she has an insulin dependant son, got told no. Tumble driers are classed as luxury items (even with a disabled person at home)
One day I might be more organised...........

I helped someone get a loan for a washing machine and tumble drier. They were given money for both because their child was constantly messing the bed (sorry if too much detail), so the turnover of bed linen was very high. It was a few years ago, I don't know if they have tightened up their rules since?

Loans can be given for non essential items, to be honest I doubt many use if for what they claim, I was only stating that CCGs would not be given in this case.

You will probably be offered a social loan (cant remember the correct name of it) which will have to be paid back and it can be done weekly out of your benefit money, a tumble dryer wont be seen as an essential, my friend a LP with 2 children couldnt even get a grant for a new fridge and had to keep banging it to get it going.

Use a clothes horse, if you are limited for space you can have it going over the bath, 80% of my washing is drying on one and only occasionally do I tumble dry it if I have had loads of washing and rarely line dry unless its spring/summer.
