Seem to remember my Mum using vouchers for stuff she wasn't buying (IYSWIM)

Yeah, I didn't mean to come across as snippy as I did in the first post. I'm not from the UK, and am used to the rules stating that if you aren't buying the product, then it's fraud (and people even get arrested occasionally!).
If Tesco says it's okay, I don't understand why everyone doesn't collect moc. £38 of grocery that the poster above scored...not too shabby for cutting up some newspapers, eh?Not sure about the ethics; at the end of the day, Tesco or whichever supermarket get the vouchers redeemed by the manufacturer or whoever issued them. I have been using the Coke vouchers in most of the supermarkets, but I have actually been buying the item.
If Tesco policy is to take any coupon, that is fine, the onus is on them to redeem them. I was told a few years ago, Tesco would take any coupon ( IN DATE !!! ) as long as they actually stocked or sold the product.
What annoys me is where people happily post that they use other store issued or out of date coupons and seem to think it is funny to do so. Does this not constitute fraud ???? What next, passing forged banknotes to the big supermarkets ?
Perhaps if anyone has spoken to the supermarkets head offices and got a copy of company policy regarding coupons / vouchers, they could let us have a look at itPick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win. - Jonathan Kozol0 -

Nor do I but I am very glad they don't. It works well for the minority of us who know about it and have thick enough skin to cope calmly with the scowls and sometimes downright rudeness from SAs and some Supervisors.
I used 3 coupons in Waitrose earlier, 3x50p off a food product, against the cost of 2 women's magazines. I paid 20p. Waitys are so polite about taking a few coupons, only once did a lad on their tills say he thought you had to buy the product, no scowling though. After quickly checking he apologised for his error and said it's because he used to work at Sainsburys (who don't allow it) and didn't realise Waitrose did accept them. No-one had asked before me.
I have NEVER seen anyone else in Waitrose using any coupons, and only rarely have I seen anyone using even a fair amount of MOCS in Tesco or Asda. Most people simply don't know that they are throwing away cash when they bin a magazine with coupons in it!:eek:PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I know what you mean about Waitrose Coupon' ...
I only shop there when I park to walk into the city centre ... but I always take some coupons for my homecoming shop ... They are sooooooo polite ... the last two times I have been congratulated on getting my bill so small by the boys on the till .... Can you imagine that in Tesco ... :rotfl: ... and if they ever do query it they are super polite and apologise for holding YOU up ...
Don't be afraid to call in folks ... some things are not hugely expensive ... their frozen peas are always cheaper than Tescolditz! .... and the staff alone are worth a visit .... don't forget to pick up a mag too ... you can use any of the Waitrose coupons printed in it without buying the product anyway ... the mags are free to John Lewis Card customers ...Coupon-mad wrote: »

Waitrose is where I generally shop. The staff there are amazing, imo. I've asked questions numerous times, and they even tried to hunt down a discontinued item for me once.
I'll have to ask about the coupon/voucher policy.Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win. - Jonathan Kozol0 -

I didn't argue and paid the £19 difference in cash. Walking away I realised she'd not used the 3 coke vouchers and I'd bought two lots!
I went to CS and a very helpful lady had to go and find the coupon policy. She confirmed that the SA should have taken the vouchers after reading the policy. She also kindly let me photocopy the stores 'Coupon Policy' in case I have probs in future and refunded my cash. Result
Just thought I'd tell you about this embarrassing incident concerning MOC and Tescos.
I went to the Faversham Tesco with my OH last week, we both had a basket of shopping and a couple of vouchers each, mine were for 30p and 50p. When we got to the tills there were only middle aged women on them so we queued up at separate tills. OH's shopping and vouchers went through no probs, but when I gave the woman my vouchers she looked at me funny and said she didnt know if they took them (I hadnt bought the goods on the vouchers), she then called to the woman in the next till and asked her, this one left her till and took the vouchers up to customer services calling out on the way did anyone know if they took the printed internet vouchers. Before she got to the CS a supervisor stopped her and took the vouchers off her and then called another manager looking fella over and they discussed it for seemingly ages. By this time I was wishing the floor would open up and swallow me whole. The manager fella then came over and asked if I had bought any of the items and I said no so he said he was sorry but he couldnt accept the coupons.
To this the woman the other side who had served my OH piped up that she had just taken some of those coupons and they had scanned ok, the manager went over and asked her to open the till so he could have a look, by this time OH had left the shop, so I picked up my bags of shopping and followed after.
Doubtless to say I wont be going back to that store again. It was so embarrassing.
OH has done small bits of shopping there a few times in the past and has had no problem with the coupons but no doubt they will be looking for them now. They are legit coupons from the coupon net website.0 -
What a palaver! I have had the same experience in Tesco more than once, it's really embarrassing. Waitrose never treat customers like that!
Trouble is that Tesco staff don't know the policy and nor do some Managers. In fact, accepting internet coupons is at 'Managers' discretion' so some stores will say yes and others will say no.
It doesn't help the customer much does it, when by contrast you have Waitrose staff being polite & happy to take some (including internet coupons) as long as they stock the product. A much simpler policy for customers and staff alike.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I have recently started my journey of coupon saving. On Monday, I had bought £16.40 of shopping and scanned 3 coupons which have £4 total worth, no problem at all using a SS. I was very chuffed.
The next day, I had £13.67 of goods from Mr.T, first 2 coupon which were £2.00 & £1.50 all went through without any problem, the third coupon which was £1.50 beeped and asks for approval. A middle-aged woman came to open up the till and checked the voucher. At first, I thought she was gonna made me feel embarrassed, but luckily she was quite a nice lady. She explained to me that I can only use 1 voucher if I didn't buy the product and cancelled the two vouchers that's already gone through. Although I was a bit gutted that the coupons was cancelled, I was also relieved that she didn't gave me the "shame on you" look. I was so nervous when she walk towards me and my head almost exploded...
Anyway, She also told me if I go to SA, they sometimes will take up to 3 coupon and here's the confusing bit. Why "SOMETIMES"?
if it's store's policy to take 3 coupons then surely they can take coupon all the time but not sometimes?0 -
I know, it's daft isn't it?
But you really would be better to avoid SS as they have a limit and the authorising SA can be quite fierce sometimes. Also why use a till where you are guaranteed to need your coupons authorising?
Better to go to a nice young person & hand over about 6 or more coupons with your clubcard, asking if he/she can scan any of them please? They either will or they won't but usually you will get at least one scanned, sometimes all of them.
Better odds than at the self-scan IMHO.;)PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
