You have to choose 'finish & pay' then you can scan coupons, that's in Tesco anyway. But you can use them at normal tills and don't have to buy the product stated. Some stores have a maximum limit they will allow and often on the self-scan it's LOWER than at a till.

And pleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaase, in spite of the above post by newmommyjen, NO-ONE should try using Somerfield, Asda or Sainsburys coupons from the back of their magazines, in Tesco. Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They will scan in other supermarkets because they all happen to share the same barcode systems (that's how come most manufacturers' coupons can be scanned in various stores). But - apart from spend & save coupons like '£x off when you spend £xx' which Tesco do accept as a loss-leader - any other supermarket money off coupons are NOT acceptable at Tesco, don't even ask an SA as they may not know and 'try them' (in which case they will scan).

Even if you 'get away with it' once without a Supervisor seeing them, later on the SA may get in trouble as they are NOT redeemable and should not be scanned in Tesco. Before you know it, a few too many of these dud coupons (or out of date coupons, or both) will cause your store to clamp down on all coupon-use and you will have ruined a good policy for everyone.

By all means offer non-store-specific money off coupons, or those printed from Couponnet, and you don't have to buy the product. But don't offer ones they can't redeem.

Is it all Tesco stores that accept coupons for stuff you are not buying? I live in Medway Towns and we use the big Gillingham store mostly or the Rainham one for top up shopping. Has anyone tried these stores please?

My partner usually does the main shop but does not want to take the vouchers in case they dont take them. I have quite a few I have printed from coupon.net but not for things we would buy (I print them to get the click points).

It should be all of them as it's a national policy. In reality, some still only accept one coupon altogether but that's better than none! Your OH should take a couple with him/her, the ones that expire first, and should be able to use at least one.

Always choose a happy looking young till operator when using any coupons though. You are doing nothing wrong in using them but your average 'old bat' middle-aged till lady may have you believe otherwise so avoid the embarrassment & go to a young 'un!

Best of luck, you shouldn't need it though as it IS acceptable not to buy the product in Tesco!

Um, am I missing something here? Isn't this kind of unethical?

Tesco get the money back and they sell loads of the products the coupons are for anyway
  • generally - although it does depend from store to store and person to person - asda will accept coupons off your bill up to 10% of the value, and tesco will accept what you can get away with.

in both, i generally try to vary the coupons and not give more than 6 per transaction.

i went to tesco today and used £3 off just over £10 spend. as other posters have mentioned get to know your SAs, the younger ones (am i getting older?) tend to take whatever you give to them, which i am always very grateful for.

likewise in both stores you don't have to buy the item as long as they sell it.

does anyone else get excited as i do when i find coupons eg in newpapers/mags at work? i got excited at a page of coupons totalling £1.40 in our local paper today:o

It'd never occurred to me before to give Mr T's a voucher for something I'm not buying on that day - in fact I've kicked myself in the past for buying something on one day and getting a voucher for it the next!

Anyways - I thought Mr T's will honour other stores vouchers?

I'm sure I've seen signs in there to that effect (although I also shop in Sainsburys too, so it might've been there)

Edited to add: I thought so Mr T's will accept Sainsburys & Safeway (guess they don't update their website that often! I also am sure they accept other coupons) both instore AND online (just give them to the driver & they'll refund your card). They say on their online grocery help that they only will accept coupons for money off the total transaction, but I don't know whether that has now been updated to include ALL coupons, including ones valid only for specific products.

They also say that they will only accept up to £15 worth of coupons for one delivery.
 All posts made are my own opinions and constitute neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
  • Have just come back from my first coupon run at Mr T.

I got £38 worth of shopping for under £2 cash.

Felt a bit cheeky but young girl on checkout seemed quite impressed.

Didn't use clubcard though - thought I read somewhere on here not too?
