Options

He received a giro yesterday and went to his local post office to cash it- but they said that it wasnt for there- nd they didnt know where the post office was that the code on the giro was for

Phoning the job centre and asking them. When he filled i the forms it'd have asked him what post office he wanted it issued for, but they have a tendency to mess these things up. ;)

Possibly the main post office in his town would be able to tell as well. Either way, if it's not made out to be cashed at his nearest post office he'll want to call up the job centre and get them to fix this, so he may as well call them to ask and to get it fixed.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

    Call the Jobcentre?!

It would be the Post Office that he wrote on the application form.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Umm that would be common sense- bit of a dozy bloke and cant remember. Cant phone the jobcentre too easily as no landlone- and no credit fopr mobile until he can get money
  • Go to the main Post Office then. Maybe they will be able to tell you what the code means.

LOL Again the same problem- its aout 10 miles to the jobcentre- and no money for fares. He will just have to walk the couple of miles to the maon post office and see if they can help
  • Can't he borrow 50p or however much it is to make a phone call from a telephone box and just phone them up?

It's doubtful they will tell him over the phone, he could be anyone with that Giro and asking for that information.
It is also doubtful that the post office will tell him either.

It'll have a number on it which is the post office number, you can only cash it at the post office which has that number, you could ring round post offices in the area who would be able to tell you. Most don't have order books etc now or he could have asked others on benefits in the same area which code is on their book. Our post office lady has always told people which post office it is if they have presented a giro she can't cash (it's usually for the main one in town when people don't put the post office they want to use on the form or don't do it properly). Job centre will usually tell him after confirming his identity which post office it is for. No other than phoning people etc which you have said he can't do, not much chance in finding out.
One day I might be more organised...........
