Hopefully you sent it via Royal Mail Recorded or Royal Mail Special delivery. If you sent it via standard delivery, PayPal will side with the buyer and take the money from you.

If you send it via Recorded or Special, add the tracking number to PayPal along with a long post about how you're a valued eBay and PayPal customer and all items are tested before posted.... PayPal will then side with you and the dispute will be closed. Tell the buyer to go scratch.

Either way, if the dispute ends with the buyer winning, they'll be given 2 days to post the item back to you and be asked to provide proof that they posted it (via tracking number). Hopefully you'll get the laptop back and not a box full of paper mashay.

Good luck with this. When selling an expensive item like this in the future, only accept cash on collection, cheque or bank transfer. :)

I really hope they didn't use Recorded Delivery... only use Special Delivery when sending expensive items through the post. Recorded Delivery only covers you for £36, special covers you for £500, £1000 or £2500.

I would never accept paypal for large payments like that, touch wood i've never had a problems on eBay or Paypal but i've heard the horror stories and wouldn't risk it.

If I was selling a £800 laptop on eBay, I would try my best to convince a buyer I'm real and not a scammer, so they feel confident to transfer the money straight into my bank account.

I'd give them my full name and address, land line telephone number and mobile number. I'd could even send all this in a letter with a giro deposit slip to take into the bank.

This would give me piece of mind that there's not going to be any charge backs.
  • I think the seller got the laptop back and it was broken:
BEWARE! Took 3 weeks to pay, sent my laptop back damaged! Repor to Ebay / Paypal
