Selling a laptop - nightmare!

£850 to "repair" an £800 laptop. I like that business model.
Doesn't work how, i think that's what you need to find out. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
Cant see anything out of the ordinary there.
Only thing that I would question is its been a month since hes brought it granted it was Christmas time but it must of been working surely when he got it otherwise he would of complained a lot sooner.
Let us know how it goes.
Buyer first paid by echeque - then started demanding when delivery would be. I had to remind them that I had to wait for funds to clear. Then then said that their cards were stolen and they cancelled the echeque, then I had to wait another week for payment (during which I launched a dispute with ebay as I thought that he wasn't going to pay).0 -
you have sent it to Poland. Pobably never see laptop or £799.99 again, and he only has 12 rating.0

I cant see why you kept hold of the warranty information in the first place

Just send the warranty info off to him recorded and think no more of it. I can't see why you would have to reimburse him anything.
There are a number of known scams involving removing good, working parts with defective parts and then bellyaching to the seller that the laptop is bad.
It's why you should always sell a laptop (even one only a few weeks old) with absolutely no warranty. You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -
If I had to express an opinion its that the buyer is trying it on.
What can you do:-
Keep paypal in the negative, you sold a working laptop. Paypal will eventually pass this 'debt' onto there harassment company, who will try and harass you for the money.
Send a cease and desist letter to the harassers (send recorded, keep a copy), inform them the 'debt' is in dispute with paypal and to 'cease and desist' the harassment. Keep a log of dates times of all calls and letters. Eventually they will give up. If they don't, complain to the police, as harassment for debt is illegal in the UK.
If it went to small claims court you would win. You sold a working laptop. Caveat emptor [SIZE=-1]- let the buyer beware.
Never sell expensive stuff using paypal. It is a scammers best friend, as you have found out.

I agree with not offering returns.
I am not suggesting the OP provides a warranty of his own but should send the Warranty card which was provided with the Laptop when purchased.
That way the OP does not have to offer any warranty as it is already provided and is between the buyer and manufacturer.
I see no logic in witholding the Warranty card when it was sent.0 -

Buyer is registered in Poland, but Paypal registered / confirmed address was UK. Sent it to the confirmed address.
Laptop was not actually advertised with warranty. It was only when the buyer first said 'it doesn't work', that I said I would send a copy of the warranty to them.0 -
