Selling a laptop - nightmare!

Firstly by asking for more info you are rather opening a can of worms as it suggests you might be aware there was a problem.
You have two options really here, either just refund on the return of the laptop. Tell the buyer though that you will be checking the serial number on its return to match it against your records (but say it tactfully!)
If you do want to refund at this stage then the buyer can raise a paypal dispute for item not as described. If a chargeback is raised then it could go either way, although in cases where there is 'proof' of an item not working it is slightly more likely to go in favour of the buyer.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It has already gone to Paypal, they are deciding the case now.
I did wonder whether this 'service' existed. But whats to say if something was done after the buyer had received it, and then took it for service?0 -

As I posted previously, there's a known market (and eBay are fully aware that it goes on) in replacing known bad parts in a pc or laptop with bad ones and then claiming a bum deal.
Unfortunately, eBay and PayPal (one and the same these days) care as much about their customers as a dog does its fleas.
You might have to chalk this one up in the "one of life's experiences to learn from" column.  :mad:You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -
You've got 2 options, add money to your paypal account to bring it out of negative, or don't.
The laptop may now be broken, whats thats got to do with you

this is the thing.how long after a sale goes thorugh does paypal feel its the sellers responsibility?
given its 2nd hand then its a chance you take as a buyer.
if i buy a car privatly and it blows up on the drive home then i hjave little comeback0 -
The buyer is now demanding details of the company I bought it from. I have contacted the company separately to see what they want to do, they might have some experience of this.
Buyer says he's sent a copy of the service to Paypal. I can see where this is going - it annoys me how in this country people get scammed every day yet all people are told to do is 'be aware', what is being done to get these people?
Hopefully Paypal will see in the auction listing that the laptop is 'on', which should dispel the arguement that it doesn't power up.0 -
I personally would not communicate further with the buyer unless it is all done through the paypal system. It is nothing to do with them where you bought it, as soon as they took this to paypal they lost the right to have you run around after them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Update
buyer keeps e-mailing me. He wants proof of purchase so that he can get the laptop repaired at the place he got it serviced. I have tried to explain to him that the warranty is for the company I bought it from, only them will 'repair' it. He seems to think that he can take it anywhere and get it repaired.
I want this resolved asap as Paypal are holding onto my funds (negative balance, all money coming in is just decreasing the neg). I said to the buyer if he cancelled the claim, returned the laptop to the company I bought it from, then I would refund it. I spoke to the company and explained the situation, and they will honour the warranty with me but not with him. That way I get the laptop back and get it 'repaired', and the buyer gets his money back.
But the buyer is proving difficult again. Depsite moaning 'I wany my money back' he is wanting proof of purchase to get it repaired. I have said return to the company, upon receipt I will refund you, and if you don't want to do that then wait for Paypals outcome. I'm not getting it repaired to send it back and find 'another problem'.
I'm keeping all communication as e-mails, even though the buyer is urging me to call him. I'm sick and tired of this and just want it over with.0 -
