Oyster card warning
Options
Transport for London seem to be having problems with the Oyster card system.
According to the Oyster website, my balance was £4.70 on the morning of 24/01/08. I then made two journeys at 12:16 and 20:56. When I checked my balance later that night it showed £2.90, which I agreed with.
However, just before I topped up my credit with £20 the next day, the reader in the shop showed 20p. I would like to know where £2.70 has gone as I have not made any further journeys.
Have checked TfL's website today and my balance is still showing 20p. I've sent a webmail but have to wait up to ten days (!) for a reply.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I thought I was the only one that had problems with Oyster cards. On my trips from Canada last year I have used the Oyster card on both of my visits to London. I visited Greenwich on both occasions and the card reader at the station did not read my card so I was charged for the full trip.
Within the hour I visit a London Transport ticket office and was told that there was nothing they could do. On the second occasion at a main line underground station I was even told that I should buy the daily card as there was many problems with the readers and tourists like me did not normally take the time to complain and if I wanted to take it further I had to write to the address he gave me.
I told them I will not use the oyster card again but could he report that there was a problem with the reader at Greenwich, his only comment given with a chuckle was that it would be a waste of his time!.
I hope someone from London Transport or The Mayor of London's office reads this board because I took the time to write to both of them last November and did not receive a reply.0 -
Thanks for that; it makes interesting reading. The whole idea of using an Oyster card is surely to save money! I'm going to keep a daily record from now on as evidence.
I must say that TfL's response to your complaint was lame in the extreme.0 -
If anyone from TfL can help, I'd be grateful. If I keep losing money then I shall complain to the newspapers and ask them to investigate.0

As you are checking the balance online, you must have registered the Oyster card. Therefore you can see the journey details and it should be obvious what has happened.0

The only history available is that which was printed at the newsagents. Unfortunately it doesn't show the daily balance and only goes back so far.0 -
If you top-up online or use the auto top-up you can see full journey details for the last 8 weeks.0

That would be very handy but I top up at a shop. Online top up isn't any use if you only use buses and don't live or work near a tube station.
Perhaps if I go to my nearest tube station they might be able to print out a history?
The fact remains that my credit dropped from £2.90 to 20p overnight.0 -

If you go to a tube station you will be able to SEE a journey history on the ticket machine. Just swipe the Oyster and press the history option0
