Ive got a hotpoint one and have had nothing but trouble with it (repairman due again on saturday). Even the engineer says not to buy another.

No.
Hotpoint, Ariston, Creda and Cannon are all part of the Indesit group. Many of the Hotpoint and Indesit models at the moment share the same internals but are cosmetically different. Indesit is supposedly the entry level.
Avoid these like the plague along with Candy Group products which include Hoover.
Zannusi, AEG and Tricity Bendix are all part of the Electrolux group.
Generally I have found the Electrolux products quite good, however not as good as the products of yester year, but this can be said of most whitegoods. My farts hospitalize small children0 -
Hi All,
I'm also looking for a washer-dryer now. Any latest reviews would be appreciated. Thanks0 -
Wow, this is an old thread!
The new link to the washer dryer thing on UKW is here. The short of it is, don't buy one, I get pounded for that all the time but, it's the truth, they're horrid, flawed things that really don't work that well.
All the washing machine buying advice is in this section but I don't mind answering specific questions if I can. Just bear in mind, while I know a fair old bit about the appliance industry, I don't know everything.

If you have room for separates then buy that . If you absolutely have to have a washer dryer then look at somethin g like Bosch or Siemens for your best chane of minimising problems that you will have with it.
As above they are a huge compromise and inherently go wrong far more than separate washer and dryers
We had a Hotpoint one for about 5 years and it went wrong about 4 or 5 times
You also cannot fit a full wash load into the dyer in general0 -
I've owned 3 washer dryers. I had a Zanussi for about 10 years and it worked very well. I would have bought another but it was slightly too deep kitchen.
I had a Hotpoint for 3years which was a disaster - it broke down several times and the 5 year parts guarantee is a great idea but you pay £90 for each repair and I had to wait 6 weeks for a part to become available. AVOID!
I'm now the owner of a Bosch. It's the best machine I've had in 2 respects. The wash performance - particularly the thorough rinsing - is outstanding. It also does a 40 degree cotton load in 1 hour 8 mins which by modern machine standards is relatively quick. It also has automatic drying which leaves the clothes perfectly dry and fluffy (even at the lowest setting the Hotpoint's automatic drying left the laundry crispy dry).
I'm sure that a Miele would be the best machine I could buy but I could buy 2 Bosch machines for the same price. The Bosch comes with a 2 year guarantee as standard.
Hi - I appreciate this is a three year old post, but can you tell me what model of Bosch this was - and if you remained happy with it?
Thanks.0 -
I have an LG washer dryer. 9kg washer, 6kg dryer. Huge tub but with quick wash programmes if requyired. All the modern things like delayed start, hospital rinse, duvet programme etc. big enough for everything really and we really do wash fewer times.0

Thanks for that - what's the dryer like - I've heard mixed/poor reports re the dryer aspect of these washer dryer machines.0

We bought a new AEG washer dryer recently and I think it's great, model L14950 8kg wash, 6kg dry and it drys most things in an hour, including jeans.0

I would like a washer/dryer whcih also has a short wash option, can anyone recommend?
I need to buy one tomorrow/sunday as just walked into the kitchen to see smoke coming out of mine and a full to bursting washing basket
TIA:D0
