MBNA 0% balance transfers - BEWARE !!!!

Can't believe they can do this...
Had £12000 on a 0% balance transfer deal with MBNA. Paid the minimum
payment of £5 every month by standing order.

Last month, they changed the terms and conditions and changed the
minimum payment to £10. Yes, I know I should have checked my
statement...

Anyway, by accidentally not making the minimum payment, I got charged
£12 late payment fee, they removed my 0% balance transfer deal, and
charged me interest of nearly £200 !!!!!!

One simple mistake by me and it costs me £200+ !!!!!

Spoke to their customer services and they really couldnt care less.
Even though they understood what had happened they refuse to budge.
Opportunistic or what ???? The thing is I've had an MBNA credit card
for about 20 years and this is how they treat me.

I know a lot of you are going to say it was my fault for not checking
but, I do think its very opportunistic of MBNA to do this.

    So your point is............?

Don't bother reading the literature they send you and then bellyache about the consequences?

Methinks you won't find much sympathy here, particularly as you got £12k at 0%.

But I hope you feel better for getting it off your chest

My complaint is that the consequences and cost to me are excessive considering the small mistake I made.

Why should they 'care less'? They are a company that exists to make money. You could quite have easily set up a DD for minimum payment but you chose not to and you also chose not to bother reading changes to the T&Cs.

Entirely your own responsibility and MBNA are quite within their rights.

Within their rights - yes. Fair - no.

My argument is that my mistake of paying £5 instead of £10 means I have incurred, in effect, a disproportional 'fee' of over £200. However, it stacks up, this is how it has happened.

Ah, your argument, flimsy as it was, fell apart completely at that point.

If you'd read the change to terms and conditions, then whether it was "fair" or not would be irrelevant because you'd have increased your minimum payment to cover the said change.

Alas, your post is symptomatic of everything that's wrong with Britain today......."it's not my fault, who can I blame?".

They've reinstated the 0% according to another post you've made.......I'd quit bellyaching while you're ahead if I were you.

You have my sympathy but you know it was entirely your error. You could have easily have set up a direct debit. After all they were only asking for £5.

On this occasion MBNA were in the their rights to take away your 0% rate and hopefully this will treat you a lesson in the future.

With respect you were the one at fault not the bank and because you have been with them for over 20 years makes no difference. Indeed why should it.

Absolutley Within their rights and also totally fair. you should have set up a direct debit. I agree paying £200 for a mistake hurts but then you paid for your folly.

rather than a standing order for which you are responsible and MBNA has no hold over you should have set up a direct debit and MBNA would have been responsible.

Well i guess sometimes we learn the hardway!!. atleast you got your 0% reinstated that in itself says a lot about MBNAs customer service. you save face and some money!!. At 6% you atleast lose only 4 months gross interest. you still make money for the remaining months.
