I do wonder about some of the items that we use as toys or novelties sometimes. It isn't that long ago for instance that leaded paint was routinely used in all childrens things. It is easy to assume that since something is on general sale it MUST be safe.
And don't Mattell know all about that from recent events!!!!

I have found that getting a mention on MSE often is the kiss of death for auctions. By the time we pick it all apart and find fault the poor seller must wonder what is going on. In 1984 I slipped a few tritium map reading lights into a demand for stores for the regimental quartermaster tech to sign. Black rubber with a cap over the glowy thing. You could just map read by them and they had a lanyard. I got a very minor ticking off for it before we all got one each.
