  • If home printed photos don't laminate well, I'm presuming pictures I've printed off the net won't laminate well either?

My idea was to print off some maps, pictures of planets etc for my lad and laminate them. Anyone know if that'll work?

It depends on the quality of the picture you print, the paper you do it on, the printer settings etc.

TBh,though, the Works- the cheap bookstore- usually have cheap deals on sets of maps and atlases, which may be cheaper than printing and laminating ones you have found online, unless you want something specific not available in the shops.

I think it's more to do with the type of paper you printed them on. Photo paper won't work well. If you're just printing them on bog-standard paper, it'll work fine.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it
  • 10 years ago I laminated some A3 colour photocopied images of art ('Birth of Venus' type of thing) to use as placemats. I'm still using them. Astonished at how durable they turned out to be.

Exactly what I wanted to know. And good to know they're so durable. Thanks both.

Just a warning in case anyone gets carried away with laminating everything.......never never use a heat laminator to try any make your ultrasound scan photo permanent. A colleague did this and the image melted (it was printed on that shiny paper). It was the only copy she had and she was heartbroken!
  • Also, precious photos shouldn't be laminated. It will corrode them over time.

  • Recently bought a laminator and thought this is the best place to get inspiration. You all have always helped me out in the past.

I would love some christmas gift ideas to give as pressies to grandparents etc using a laminator. My only idea so far is to make personalised placemats/coasters.

Does anyone have any other ideas please?

or for children, wipe clean drawing boards, so you could seal different pictures that they can add to - ie the outline of a face, that they have to add features to
  • Somebody suggested a while back (sorry can't remember the thread) about making bookmarkers using a laminator. If you have children you could get them to draw a picture, laminate them and use these as bookmark gifts to give to relatives.
