Do you think the components are any different? They're all the same, a typical server is simply assembled differently with a lot of redundancy built in. If you want the same for your pc then you'll have to pay the same, i.e. more than anyone can afford for home use.

People do use home PCs as servers.

  • Who in their right mind would want to artificially pay more for all their goods so that Muppets could make spurious claim, which I then pay for?!?!?!?
How do I benefit from this nonsense?

If your concerned about having a working computer 24/7 then why don't YOU buy a warranty and not expect the rest of us to subsidise you? That way you take on the risk and I get cheaper goods.
My personal experience of Dell has been fine, as a coporate purchaser they were fine and as a personal customer they fulfiled their obligations.

vomityspice: offer me a hug and tell me Dell are nasty then call me a muppet.

I need a warranty to get a system that works?

Do they know you are a corporate purchaser when you do your personal purchases? Perhaps you are being treated with preference? I havent played that card yet.
  • Have you tried restoring to factory settings?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

We carried out a restore to the point before the 1394 card was used but no life in them then.
  • I mean a full factory restore, which would prove if it is really a hardware issue (assuming that the wireless is switched on). Something such as windows update could stop a card working.

Is it visible in device manager?

Reseating the card might also help

Have had a replacement card, swapped two pci cards over in different slots. Didnt go for a full restore (would have lost all documents and settings?) Visible in device manager - says its working fine. Dell didnt seem to know where to go with it. About 5 hours online diagnosis!

    :grouphug: Your a Muppet!

If you want to ensure that you have a computer 100% of the time then buy a service agreement. Then a nice engineer will be there within an hour to fix it. I don't need theat level of service and would not apprieciate paying extra for it. Indeed, when buying my laptop from Dell, I made sure I clicked on the 90 days only as I knew SOGA applied so my rights were protected!

I would be hightly surprised if there online booking system could work out that I have previously been a corporate buyer. But you never know?
