    Sounds great fun!!

One of my friends had a casino set up with 5 different games at their wedding. Everyone got £50 in chips and the one with the most at the end of the night won a bottle of wine :D

I so want that when I get married now!

  • The thing about weddings is that you will always hack people off no matter how much you try to please them. So I figure hung for a sheep as a lamb, you may as well do it your way!

    Sounds like fun BTW
  • I gather you mean a "somerset skittle alley" rather than a "megabowl type alley".... i think it could be a great idea, if you like the food (which you do) and its affordable, go for it! ,,, at least people will remember the wedding, most weddings of the same these days ... boring! ... will the £16ph include a skittle game or will you ahve to pay extra for that?

Princess F, if you allowed to decorate the room and "disguise" it a bit then why not. You can always tell the guests you have laid on the skittles for those feeling energetic after the meal!

TBH, No, I don't think it's appropriate, ,and I do think people would talk behind your back.

If they talk behind your back, imagine what they'd say at mine. When I get married I want comedians, a drag act, a steel band, fire eaters and a fancy dress theme!

Let them talk. Weddings are supposed to be fun. I've seen funerals that have been livelier than some wedding receptions!! I remember one wedding had a disco- 5 people on the dance floor, 3 of them children whilst the rest of the guests sat around the edge of the dancefloor looking on in boredom. One funeral had a wake that was so full of laughter, dancing and smiles (fuelled by a smidgen of alcohol) that I understood why they call it a wake. Enough noise to wake the dead person up! Celebration of life/celebration of the union of 2 loving souls, clues in the name. CELEBRATION!

If your guests don't like it Fiona, just invite us lot instead!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

The brilliant thing about weddings nowadays, especially for inventive/money saving/non sheep like people :D is that you can do whatever the hell YOU want to do. Long gone are the days when there was a 'right' thing to do. Here are the days when you get to celebrate in exactly the way you want.

I think it sounds like a belting idea - I love it. If I had the money I would hire a burlesque troupe to entertain my guests :T

  • I think it sounds ace!

I hate boring wedding receptions, and giving people something fun to do that everyone can join in with is a brilliant idea.

I also concur with all previous comments about cost and snooty guests, and actually you might find that they enjoy it anyway. For our very small (15 guests) big day, we went to the registry office by bus. All 17 of us. My OH's rather snooty aunt was initially horrified - "by bus?!?", but it was a hoot. She still keeps the ticket to this day. We also had lunch at a local cafe that is a training and employment project for people with learning difficulties. It's a bit down at heel, in a not-great location, but we took balloons, tablecloths, favours etc and they decorated it for us and we all had a lush lunch. Afterwards, everyone kept saying that it was a very 'us' way to do things - and it was. Memorable, true to ourselves and great memories that will make us smile for a long time to come -and that's what it's all about, imho, not how much you spend.

Good luck - and whatever you decide on, I hope that it makes you smile for many years to come too.

I think that sounds like great fun and I'd go for it, people always remember the fun weddings where things were a bit different.
Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!
  • Great idea! Definately go for it. In fact I am nicking your idea as we are having our reception practically on the beach so if the weather is nice we shall get the Boule out to entertain the guests whilst we have our photos taken.
