Just been for a fantastic birthday meal tonight. Would love to have wedding meal there but looking at £30 plus per head. So owner of the place suggested we hire out the skittle alley above the restaurant only works out to £16 per head and includes main course and pudding. What do you think? PF

I think it sounds like fun - something different and a night everyone will certainly remember?!
I'm getting married in May and don't want to pay much for a 'do' so think we may be going to our local chinese buffet chain ( there'll only be a few of us!!)

Skittle alley??? Bowling??? At a wedding meal?? Noooo, that sounds like fun!! You're not getting into the spirit of wedding meals here are you Princess Fiona.
1. Single female guests are supposed to sit through the meal with gritted teeth wishing it was them getting married
2. Single men sit there feeling glad it's not them getting hitched so they can spend all their money in lap dancing clubs/sit there wondering why no one will marry them
3. Married women sit there remembering the happiest day of their lives and the infuriating ones afterwards, wondering where their hunk of a fiance went
4. Married men sit there thinking "thank god I don't have to go through that again"
You see, adding fun means the guests will get confused and enjoy themselves!!! :rotfl:
Good luck with whatever you decide! :jMy mind not only wanders .......... sometimes it leaves completely0 -
TBH, No, I don't think it's appropriate, ,and I do think people would talk behind your back.
Have you tried the local social clubs- do they have a night when they aren't open to their members- I know one round here who hires out the hall for Friday nights- the drink is cheap too- so it's a bonus for the guests too. It's decorated really nicely too.
Just my humble opinion of course, but you know your guests better than any of us. Good Luck with the wedding.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I think it sounds like fantastic fun! Go for it
It's YOUR day so have the day you want to! No doubt there may be some guests who might be a bit iffy about it, but even they might surprise themselves and enjoy it!0 -
it's your wedding - so whatever you want will be perfect! what's 'appropriate' is up to you and not your guests!
i'd sooner go to something a bit different and have fun if that's what the couple want. i've known people have a big bbq - which was a great for everyone who went.
if you're scared some people won't like it, then just don't invite them because as glastowinebar says, they aren't really worth bothering with!:happyhear0 -
I think it sounds amazing. Don't be frightened about people talking behind your back, so what, if its what you and your partner want then its the right thing for you.
Long gone are the old rules.0 -
It depends what you want out of your "do" really - I'd have no problem with using a skittle place, but we wanted a disco so it would also have to have room for a dance floor for after the meal, plus of course good access to a BAR. (We had a lot of fun playing croquet on our wedding day, but skittles would've been equally fun
)
Anyone who thinks it inappropriate doesn't have to accept the invitation, do they? They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
i think it sounds rather fun myself
If you like the sound of it then dont let others put you off - go for it

Go for it, it sounds great fun and its your day after all. The fact you are getting married is the important part not the flashy over the top party.
We did our wedding on a very tight budget as every penny we had went on the house deposit and we overheard a relative say "If they cant even aford a good do what chance is there for the marrage?"  Well this March we have our silver wedding - if I went back and did it all again I would still go with what we could afford rather than what others wanted.
good luck and I hope you have a great time.:beer:Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
It's your wedding, do what you want, bo11ocks to anyone "talking behind your back"
. If I had an invite to a wedding party at such a venue I'd be thinking that it makes a nice change from the same old same old wedding do.
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0
