Part P rewire problem - Electricians please help!

  • I notice that NAPIT has not been mentioned by the "ECA regional Inspector" - why is this?
  • Part P electricians Cannot issue cert you require

Although they may issue a periodic inspection which 99% for BCO is plenty (all they are looking for is someone to take responsibility for works etc)

Full NICEIC, ECA members can issue you the certification (not the ones on the accredited part P schemes) some charge per circuit some per installation, If the electrician was not part P does not necessarily mean he did the installation incorrect ? I've seen just as many bad one's with part P

I assume that you HAVE heard of NAPIT? - their full-scope members are more than qualified to work on an equal basis of both NICEIC and ECA full members - ALSO NAPIT require the person doing the job to be qualified, not just someone in the office filling in the paperwork at close of play.

Correct me if I am wrong?

    Taken from the www.partp.co.uk website:

Part P applies to all electrical installation work carried out in dwellings. However, you do not need to tell your local authority's Building Control department about:
    • repairs and maintenance work or
    • extra power points or lighting points or other alterations to existing circuits (except in specially defined areas such as a kitchen, bathroom or outdoors)
If you are unsure you should contact your local authority's Building Control department or, if you are already dealing with a Competent Person, they should be able to advise you.
  • I've just come across this thread and i'm worried. We had a rewire done a year ago. We chose a part P NIC electrician who failed to tell us when his business failed and he lost his NIC registration until several weeks into the job. We still have no part P certificate and as we paid cash no written record to take to the NIC. He claims he's going to get re-registered and wants to use our home as an example of his work but we've been hearing this excuse for months. I'm going to call and nag again tomorrow - I don't know where to go next if I get another excuse???

Full Niceic, Eca can issue certificate person required,
Part P Registered Domestic Electrical Installers schemes no mater which scheme cannot issue certificates that the person required(They either have to oversee or do the works themselves)
