A candy round is when the little girls (it's nearly always girls) go round the doors in the neighbourhood selling cakes of tablet, fudge, puff candy, toffee etc.
I think it sells for about £1 a cake but the kids get about 25p from every bar they sell.
The generally give you about 2 weeks to sell the stuff before coming back, but even if she did it for a few weeks it could get her enough to do something fun for a day or 2 during the summer/easter holidays.
We get them quite a lot up here - maybe it's a scottish thing

Thanks guys! Gosh it was soooooo cold on the way to work this morning! Freezing! I got up early to try washing the bedding but there was no way I was gonna put it out this morning as thought it was gonna be way too cold and have just looked out of the window and it is gorgeous out there, wish I had put it out there now! Hope the weather stays nice, gonna go to the gym at lunch I think, try and run 5 miles on the treadmill as I have only got a little top with me and worried that I may get too cold outside, not to mention the works shower is out of order for some reason! Hoping for a NSD today, counting down the 2 weeks till payday big styleeee! I am gonna try and look in my cupboards tonight to see what I can make dinner wise for the next 2 weeks. I weighed myself this morning and have decided to think about food / health etc properly now! There have been times when I would scoff so much rubbish down my throat it's insane! I was planning on doinf the SW plan to try and shift a few pounds, especially as I would love to shift them before my half marathon next month, as you get a little faster if you are not as heavy weight wise. But then I want Emily to eat the same as me and she doesn't need to loose any weight. So may have to adjust the meals slightly. Not to mention they have to be cheap ones! Grrrrr! Everything is sooooo complicated sometimes! Gotta be done though and this race is only next month. Need variety too as all we seem to be eating at the mo are jacket potatos and pasta! Hope everyone is ok xxx:j 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' - DFW Nerd member 866 :j0

I do sw and the kids eat what i do and they are built like whippets. If it can fill up the bottomless pits which are their stomachs then its a good plan in my books. so dont worry about it just cook her the same as you and you won't go wrong. One of their favourites ( and there are many) is the oven chips, with egg and beans. Just parboil chips, drain and shake them about, put in a bit of olive oil or spray light we also add steak seasoning- dont know why but spices taste good. Put on tray in oven bake at about 200 until they go slightly brown- wonderful.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

HUGE thanks for that! Will take a look in a bit...Emily has started to want to eat more and more food which is great as long as it is all healthy. The HM chips should be cheap too...as are the eggs and beans! Yay! I really want some chips now!
Do you use any particular type of potato to make them?
:j 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' - DFW Nerd member 866 :j0 -
No but i tend to buy a sack of local potatoes, wiljas are pretty good for making them and aldi do bags which make decent ones as well. My favourite baked potato is a sweet potato, but i also like the red ones as well, they make both nice chips and also baked. some of the other membes in our group swear by making turnip chips, carrot chips and butternut squash ones. Just reminds me if you like root veg and garlic i make a big roasting try full of favourite root veg. so use butternut squash, chopped red onion,a few toamtos, carrots, swede, parsnip, peppers- i like the taste and whole garlic cloves-justadd how many you like and no need to crush. Pour over a couple of table spoons of olive oil and i use worcester sauce- a few splashes and a few of your fav herbs and a couple of bay leaves mik around until veg has a smattering of oil on. Italian spag bol herbs mix works well with this. Put some tin foil over and roast in a medium oven for about 1/2 an hour i use 170 degrees and i check because it is a fan oven. Great served with pasta, chicken breast or anything, the taste is wonderful and you can add any veg you want really but sturdy rootveg are best. Very good for heart so i have been told. Virtually fat free and if you dont like olive oil which is an healthy extraon sw plan then substitute with spray light- although results slightly different in texture.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

SW is a gbreat diet to follow. I have quite a lot of the recipe books from last year. I left after i discovered MSE. REalised i didn't need to go to the classes to keep the weight off.
I used paprika for the chips, nice and tasty with any meal.

I felt much the same way although mate wants to go back- i don't as managing to maintain without the group.
Another fav recipe,
Chicken breast, take fat off slice and put a laughing cow low fat triangle in slit. Wrap around a lean slice of bacon and put in oven on 180 c for about 25 mins - but check for your oven. If you want to spice it up add garlic puree, or crush garlic and mix add herbs to the cheese triangle. Very yummy, low fat and great served with the veg bake above. I have used paprika on chips as well mmmmm. some people wrap them in tin foil but i tend not to.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Heya everyone! What a mental few days I have had...work has been mega busy! Thank goodness it is the weekend!
Am having a real lazy one this morning, haven't long got up! Just scoffed breakie and am about to switch BBC 1 on to watch Bristol Rovers play Southampton! Can't believe they are gonna be on the tele! The ground is only a few minutes away, I was gonna buy tickets but remembered that I am trying to save money...then was gonna watch it in the pub...but again remembered I am trying to save money...so am watching it in my living room instead! I know that I will be able to hear any goals from Rovers from here as well as the tele! They are sooooo noisy! Anyway, will be looking at the money in a bit. Have to transfer my Paypal money to a card as I know that has now cleared. I know I have hardly any money left until payday on the 27th so really have to do a storecupboard challenge too so that I am not buying too much food as well. Will be popping down to see my brother and my gorgeous nephew on Saturday next week, so don't plan to spend much then other than Rail ticket and I have a Family Railcard which is fab and saves a bit. Not doing much this weekend other than watching the footie, tidying up and then out for a run tomorrow in the morning and maybe a bit of gardening. My garden is such a state, hard when you are on your own. One day I am gonna have the most gorgeous garden and lovely house too...one day! Righteo better go now and sort myself out and get ready to watch the footie! Be back in a bit!xxx
PS huge thanks for the yummy recipes, will be giving them a goI will be looking through my old SW magazines to get some more ideas too and try and sort out a food plan for the week!
