All mine have been on trips..it is very expensive and as i have a large family they all chip in. We have all done the same for sis's kids as well..maybe a wee suggestion and it breaks up the cost a bit.Plus birthday monies can be added etc.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Ha ha! Too right! I am ok...just blimin' freezing cold as am trying to cut down on heating usage and electric as they have upped my direct debit again....grrrrrrr! I did a check a while ago to see about switching, but they came out the cheapest!!! I am trying to be a lot more aware of my gas usage now...but it is always sooooo cold in my kitchen / dining room bit, even with the heating on!
So glad it is the weekend! Reckon I am gonna spend some time trying to start the decorating in Emily's room. Got a load of gaps and holes to fill in and sand down first. I am finding it very hard to motivate myself but know that it really must be done soon.:j 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' - DFW Nerd member 866 :j0 -

I never went on them when I was young and I was always so gutted that the other kids did, hence me waiting her to go on the trips even more as I want her to have what I never did.
I have said to her if by some kind of miracle I can pull this off, she will have to use birthday / Xmas money for spending money and the trip too so that might soften the blow! Gonna have to sit down tomorrow and take a long hard look at my finances as now I have the car, have big things to pay out for during 2009 like insurance, childcare over the summer and Easter etc...:j 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' - DFW Nerd member 866 :j0 -

I know what you mean about the electric and gas, but the weather hasn't helped. Have you seen the thread about it on Oldstyle? Plus someone reckons halogen heaters are cheap for a quick boost.
I have gone around with a sealant gun and some draught excluder:D I also made a really awful sausage dog ..but it works.:DBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Thrilled the troll has been squashed - hope they do on the Up Your Income board too.
Just wanted to say a huge well done to Donner for doing so well.
I hope you don't mind me posting. I'm not in debt myself - mortgage aside - but at 25, and living with Mum still (property I own isn't livable yet) I feel I have lots to learn. You all have really inspiring ways to save money to conquer the money problems you have for whatever reason they've arised, that I use them to save for doing up the flat.Comping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -

I am sure you will do it. Hypno has a similar problem with her children skiing, not quite the same but she is very adept at raising funds for trips. Have a quick ask i am sure she could point out some ways for you.:DBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

It has been really cold recently hasn't it? Will check out the oldstyle thread, thanks for the heads up! Awww I love those sausage dog things! My dad used to have one years back but it was a mouse with a huge long tail! Might have a look and see if I could get one or try my hand at making one! I wish I was creative!:j 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' - DFW Nerd member 866 :j0

Hi Donner
Glad the troll has been sorted, I thought for a minute there they might lock your thread indefinately coz of the bashing we gave it
Does Emily really want to go on the skiing holiday? If so could she get a paper round to contribute a little if only saving her own spends or if you are not happy about her doing a paper round would she be willing to ask for money for birthdays and xmas and contribute maybe half of what she receives towards the trip? It would be a fantastic experience for her plus if you are debt free (or nearly) by then maybe you could sneak in a holiday with your boyfriend, child free0 -

Cut the sleeve off an old jumper and stuff with the rest of the jumper..simple ( but not very nice looking)
Mrs McCawber came up with a good one. Use an old pillowcase.Stuff with plastic bags then fold to make sausage and use scrunchies at either end ..you can re use at the end as well.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Heya! :hello: Thank you!
Yep that silly begger seems to like making a habit of commenting on my thread...numpty!
25! That feels like sooo long ago! I am 29 now! Must be amazing to have your own place on the horizon, that is a huge reason I want to become debt free, so that one day I can get a nice little home too. Everyone on here is lovely (bar the silly troll of course!) and they have so much knowledge...it's awesome! It really helps keep me on the straight and narrow and on the right track!:j 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' - DFW Nerd member 866 :j0
