That happened to me.I made a genuine mistake when i gave them the wrong information regarding my husbands annual income. After i received a letter from them re my award notice, i contacted them to tell them that i had made a mistake. They had paid me an extra £1500 so they informed me that i wouldnt receive any tax credits until the money was paid back.I only get the basic amount per month and have been paying this back since sept 05 and will have finally repaid it back come sept 08.
i could afford about £30-40 per month to pay back, but no more, maybe best getting a loan to pay it back?

  • Dont get a loan. Why pay unneccessary (sorry sp) interest on top?

As you still get tax credits now, they will take back the overpayment from the payments you get now.
no these payments should stop(havent yet)as i get a fair whack now,so will end up owing overpayments for 06/07 and 07/08,could total thousands even if i get money for 08/09 period i,ll still owe money on top of that

just to let everyone know, finally got a letter back from tc office, after wife phoned them up on tuesday, turns out my letter went to liverpool instead of preston(god knows why,i addressed it to preston, with preston postcode??)
anyway everythings ok,no overpayment fro 2006/07 and still getting same payment for 2007/08,but they estimated payment for 2008/09 will more than half, which is fine i can live with, all those weeks of worry for nothing
