Being warm. Whether its wrapped up in good quality clothes when outside or having the heating on when inside.

Decent booze. If I am going to have a drink it has to be Gordons gin or Grouse whiskey.

    Nescafe.

Good quality meat. I would rather have less than cheap and nasty.

Tuna without the fiddly bits. The cheap stuff barely had enough in the tin to make 2 sandwiches.
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.

I used to insist on this having used it since it was very first launched in this country many many years ago. However since they brought out the new and improved range I find it no longer leaves me hair as soft, as shiny or in as good condition as it used to.

Now looking for a suitably priced alternative... Pantene was ok from a free trial but very expensive and Tresemme is ok too but not at nearly £5 a bottle. Wilkos sometimes sell it for £1.97 tho which is kinda better. Years ago Sainsburys did a cheap own brand shampoo range (this is before Value days)which left my hair in excellent nick..
When one of my friends heard that they were discontinuing the old style Herbal Essences range, she stockpiled the rosehip shampoo and I swear she still has about five years' supply :D

Tresemme is currently BOGOF at Superdrug, works out at £2.20 a bottle for the ordinary stuff and £2.70 a bottle for the blonde/brunette stuff. Not sure when the offer ends but I bought some today :)

(Edited to add - it's on offer at most of the supermarkets as well at the moment, but generally at 2 for £6, so Superdrug is the best price!)

For almost anything, I'll have the own brand, but it must be good quality. Mind you, I've tried most of the economy versions on the way to discovering which the good quality ones are!

I'd rather eat less meat or go without than buy anything that hasn't lived a happy life. Also can't stand stand thin cheap toilet rolls or substitutes for Heinz tomato ketchup.
Having said that I'm quite happy to use cheap hair shampoo and toiletries, go without make-up and try most other Own Brands - at least once to see if I can really notice the difference.
  • I used to be a real brand person, my mum bought me up to only buy the best or not at all, her motto is that you can scrimp on many things in life but food should never be one of them. When my ex left me with our 2 kids, and without the use of his gold card any longer, the penny watching started and much to her annoyance I started buying own brand stuff :T
I can afford to buy brand names now but I think I am just tight as I can't justify the extra pound when buying shreddies for the kids for breakfast, tesco malt wheat things have always kept them happy :o but the things I can't compromise is...

shoes for the kids, has to be clarks like alot of people here
marmite- love it, nothing is the same to me :o
meat- i dont really eat anything but chicken, but especially for the kids it has to be good quality, dont do any processed crap here
bread- have you tasted the tesco value stuff? what the hell is in it, its rancid :rotfl: i would rather make my own or buy a nice loaf of wholemeal multigrain mmmmmmmmm :rotfl:

I too spent time as a singe mum (5 yrs) and had to watch the pennys, but I cann't give up my good coffee, it has to be Dow Egberts, so I stock buy when its on special offer and I save the jars for homemade gifts and storage lol.
I dont mind most own brand stuff and the kids dont fuss if there cereal is not Kellogg's

The cheap bread is only for the birds :rotfl:

  • Outdoor reared pork products.
    Free range chooks.
    Free range organic eggs.
Proper shoes/trainers. I spend too much time trying to avoid painkillers to do anything else to myself.
    Posh makeup.
Organic veggie box delivery. It stays fresher for longer.
Bread. Either home baked or warburton's for a lazy one.

Most other things can be economised upon at least for a brief period.
