salad cream- has to be heinz. i dont think the cheaper ones are the same at all
heating - not excessive but i hate feeling cold
maldon salt- i live near maldon so i feel a sort of local pride, plus is think its yummier even though it probably doesn't make much difference in reality!
knorr stock pots- you know those little plastic pots of jelly stock. Yes i could make my own but i dont think it ever turns out as nice as these and i dont really have the space to store the amount of real stock i'd get through!
free range eggs... but isnt this sort of a given, anything else is just plain wrong..0 -
coffee, toilet roll and chocolate0

I'll pretty much compromise on everything in our pursuit to save money, although I do buy in bulk from butcher every few months but I think that's MSE?
However I won't compromise on shoes for my children - has to be new shoes for both measured and fitted at Clarks.
As an aside I bought loads of Tesco Value stuff when I was in UK at Christmas - very impressed! especially the 17p toothpaste! Recommended!

Decent coffee.
Comfortable shoes - I have size 9 feet, and believe me, it's such a treat to have properly fitting shoes. If my feet hurt, I'm no good to man nor beast.

What an intriguing thread! When I was really short of money a few years ago my one non-compromise was decent bread - it had to be either from the baker's or from Tesco's instore bakery - I just can't stand ready-sliced bread!
I now have a breadmaker so that won't ever be an issue again (unless it breaks and I can't afford to replace it, of course), so I think I would have to say Cafe Direct instant coffee - I love my coffee and no other brand comes close to tasting as good imo. I will also now only buy free range meat and eggs, but I would choose to cut right down or go without altogether rather than use non-free range, so I'm not sure that really counts.
Oh, and decent quality cat food - my cat just won't eat the cheap stuff and I end up throwing loads away, so it's actually more money saving to buy the more expensive stuff in the first place.
(BTW - what's happening to the smilies? The shrug one vanished yesterday and now I can't see the eye-rolling one either. Am I missing something or is there really something eating the smilies?)Back after a very long break!0 -
I will always buy the best value food. Value to me means quality for price, not quantity.
I would rather use less of a good thing than larger quantites of poorer standard.
OH won't compromise on haircuts, says he has "difficult" hair...I'm dubious, but it's his little luxury so I let him have it0
