Any suggestions for a holder for a candle hamper? Budget quite small for these but willing to stretch it for good ideas!
How about a candle plate. Ikea do a choice of 2 THIS one is oblong and would probably fit about 12 big candles. THIS one is square and would probabley fit 4 big candles. Best of all they are only £2 and £1.50.
You could stick the candles onto the plate with a bit of blue tack, stacking tea lights and tying with ribbon or gold string then wrap it all in some celophane. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
a few years ago I made an art set for my daughter.I bought a big cassette case from a charity shop, added paper ,a pair of scissors ,pack of felts, pack of crayons and printed 'stickers' on ready gummed paper.I put in a packet of balloons and printed eyes, ears, noses and feet to make balloon people.
Printed out a cut out doll and cut out clothes.
Most of the items were from poundland or wilkinsons and the whole thing was very cheap.
We made a mini art set for a friends present, bought a basket and pens etc.was about £5
I made her a sewing set one year with felt, wool, cotton, scissors,a packet of sewing needles ,thimble and small knitting needles.
i love these ideas, thanks, think my daughter will like the sewing idea0 -

This is great as a present for anyone going to/at uni. Especially if it contains a couple of easy instructions i.e. how to sew on a button, hem trousers etc.r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -

My daughter loves dolls house things.A couple of years ago I bought a block of white Fimo(clay that bakes hard in the oven)and some pink pipe cleaners .I moulded heads ,torsoes, two part arms and two part legs. When the clay was baked I used the pipe cleaners to make little people using the clay parts and glueing on the lower arm, lower legs and heads. Then painted them.I made hair from cotton (more realistic than wool) and sewed clothes for them.
I made plates from Fimo, saucepans from thick foil(comes in coffee tins etc to seal them) and metal buttons, tiny ornaments(Fimo) and mini books .
Put it all in a shoe box and wrapped it up.0 -
I know its early but my second baby (already have a 16 month old, yes, am nuts) is due mid Nov and I really need to get Christmas sorted out sooner rather than later. The last couple of years I have saved a lot of money by making Christmas presents for family members, including cushions with material i picked up at car boot sales and foot stools made of empty SMA tins (just ask if you want to know how!) but this year i am struggling to come up with any ideas. Anybody got any?0

I've done a Cross Stitch of Some Daffoldils for my Grandma (Her fav Flower), and I'm planning on doing another one for a family friend. I'm also going to have a go at the Home made Bath Salts, that someone posted.0

I'm going to have a go at doing some home made flavoured oils and things. Apparently you use just a decent olive oil, not extra virgin, so it shouldn't be too expensive. I'm going to start with HM garlic and lemon, garlic and chilli, and maybe lemon and tarragon for fish or chicken. If anyone has any other nice combinations let me know!

PS I've also made a really nice body scrub before with olive oil, cooking salt and a splash of Boots Botanics Grapefruit aromatherapy oil, (reduced to 50p approx) supposed to "revive" you, and it really does. Put it in a Kilner jar (about £1 from Ikea) and add a nice gift tag - looks gorgeous!0 -
downsizing - where do you get the bottles for making flavoured olive oil? Do you use the bottles it comes in or do you decant to something else. The only 'pretty' bottles I've seen have been expensive.
thanks
