I am knitting a 'Betty Boop' blanket for DGS's girlfriend Chloe in red black and white as she loves anything with the logo on. I got the image off Google images and transferred it to a knitted image pattern.I know she will be chuffed to bits as DGS has his West Ham blanket that I knitted for him 10 years ago and wouldn't part with it for anything. I always make the sausage rolls and mince pies for all the family just before Christmas and I may even make two cakes ,one for each DD.I also like to make the mini cakes in the empty baked bean tins as small gifts for neighbours.Everyone seems to like a home made gift these days as it means you have thought about who and what the person will like I make gift boxes of small tins of goodies for fellow widows who live alone as well and often will take some across to our local vicar to give to anyone he knows who may be on their own at Christmas. Not everyone has family near by.Also knitting a Kindle cover for my friend
  • Since going on maternity leave, I've become hooked on baking cakes/bread etc so this year I've decided to give some of my friends a pretty jar (undecided yet what type exactly) filled with a basic home made cookie dough. I'll also give them a small recipe book with ideas of things to add to the dough to make different kinds of cookies.

It's not big or glamourous (sp?), but I'm hoping they enjoy the homemade aspect of it....and I hope that their kids like getting stuck into baking.

I debated making chocolate truffles too, but I know myself too well - most of said truffles would end up in my tummy instead of the gift boxes :o
Lead me not into temptation - I can find it perfectly well all by myself :D
  • Hey kathyb1230, like you im also pregnant but im a stay at home mum anyways, so im always thinking of things me and our 4 year old can get involved in which adds that special touch.

I've made sloe gin and bramble vodka for the first time, always make mince pies and gingerbread (for giving as well as for us to eat), and am making DSis' present without buying components (challenge she set!) - so far this includes pin cushions, tree/shelf decorations and a little owl cushion.

I'm also going make Frys chocolate cream-type sweets again - did many years ago and was very successful, and a fairly cheap way of making chocolates.

    A xo

  • Hi,

Loving this thread for ideas :)

I bought this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gifts-Kitchen-Irresistible-Homemade-Presents/dp/1856269388/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322046468&sr=8-1 at The Works for £4.99, and i'm trying to find something similiar to the box on the front cover - i've tried various sites online but with no luck. Does anyone know of any suppliers or somswhere where I could buy something like this?

    Thanks
