I found the tesco value pasta sticky yet hard like it never absorbed enough water. The texture was different too.. and it tasted really gritty.
The asda one was slightly better but still not nice..
I just buy the tesco 'ordinary' one now instead at least it gets eaten.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I used to buy Tesco value pasta but one day realised that it worked out the same per kg as buying Tescos big ordinary bags of pasta (3 kg bags i think), so i stopped buying value pasta then. Though i should do a price check again to make sure.0

I've been buying Sainsbury's basics pasta for over a year and find it quite ok. I've noticed that it's gone up lately, it was 18p, now it's 26p, I think.0

Lidl pasta is pretty good quality (duram wheat apparently being what good pasta is made from). I have used it in the past and thought it was fine but this was pre MS days so no idea how it compares cost wise0

I've done a little bit of research. It seems that, under Italian law, dry pasta can only be made from durum wheat semolina flour. Eggs, spices and cheeses can be added to this. Particular varieties of pasta can also use other grains and/or milling methods to make the flour. For example, Pizzoccheri is made from buckwheat flour.
Elsewhere, dried pasta is also made from other kinds of wheat flour (such as farina) but this makes a inferior product, which cannot be cooked 'al dente'.
OK. I've checked the ingedients labels on ASDA's own brand and budget spaghettis. The own brand one was just durum wheat flour. The budget one was 50% durum wheat flour and 50% soft wheat flour. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0
