I buy basics pasta and never had any problem with it , It cooks just the same and doesn't taste any different.0

Tesco value pasta is OK but needs cooking in plenty of water or it goes a bit sticky. My family don't know the difference.Debt Free Date [STRIKE]December[/STRIKE] June 2019

i not sure tesco sells it anymore , not seen it in ages. used to buy it tho never tasted any differnet.
i always thought it was darker as i thought it was a mix between the wholemeal and white pasta. dont' know tho, never thought about it.0 -
haven't seen Tesco value pasta for a long time now. was ok, just found it needed a little extra cooking.0

I used to buy value pasta but to be honest, I didn't like it. Like all value products, it's worth trying once and if you don't like it, move back 'up' to what you're comfortable with.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

It had disapeared from the shelves for a while but it's back. I bought some last week. It's ok. No-one in my family notices the difference.:)Do more of what makes you happy:)0

I use Sainsburys value one and it's no different when you've got sauce with it. If you were eating it on its own it might be, but I've never noticed any difference at all and I'm a bit fussy.0

Spooky. I was thinking just the same, when I was buying some more spaghetti for my current minimalist cooking phase last night.
I've done a little bit of research. It seems that, under Italian law, dried pasta can only be made from durum wheat semolina flour. Eggs, spices and cheeses can be added to this. Particular varieties of pasta can also use other grains and/or milling methods to make the flour. For example, Pizzoccheri is made from buckwheat flour.
Elsewhere, dried pasta is also made from other kinds of wheat flour (such as farina) but this makes a inferior product, which cannot be cooked 'al dente'.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
i used to live on value pasta, tho not seen it in a while, i used to get the 5kg sack (or something like that, massive anyway) for £2.50 and use it for a term at uni. works absolutely fine, tho i think takes a shade longer to cook that the others. no taste issues, never had a problem with stickiness as i always use a lot of water for pasta anyway (not veg, but always pasta).Trying to be good, not always succeeding. :A:beer:0
