Im going to have to say 360, this is because i own one myself and despite the fact ive had to return it twice due to rrod and the mess of LIVE over the xmas period i still have my 360. Reason being is i like the games on the 360 and ive spent alot of money on games etc, also im happy to pay £40 a year for a gold LIVE subscription so i can play multiplayer games as opposed to playing them on my pc which wouldnt be able to cope,

    Definitely Definitely 360.

I've had one from the release date and I love it. The online gaming is awesome and there are some great games on it. I also use mine sometimes as a Media Centre Extender (I have VMC in Vista Ultimate). If you don't have VMC, you can use something called Windows Media Connect to access music, photos and video stored on your PC.

You can also connect an MP3 player, send instant messages (it has Windows Live Messenger built in), connect a web cam for messaging, chats and some games, the possibilties are endless.

I like the fact that if I get bored with my games, I can just download a new one!

  • PS3 because of the blu ray
  • Hmm. If it was for games, I would say the Xbox 360. The back catalogue of games and Xbox Live make it the better gaming machine. The PS3 isn't just a games console though and although the Xbox 360 can match some of the features of the PS3, the PS3 can do so much more. You can surf the web, use it as a wireless media streamer to play video content (inc. Divx), view pictures and play mp3s all from your PC. The Xbox 360 can do this via a wired connection but is nowhere near as proficient. The Bluray is also a cracking DVD player and it will play HD BluRay discs. Bluray is probably going to emerge as the victor in the format war for physical hidef content and as the PS3 is the only current bluray player that is up to the current bluray profile spec and will be upgradable in the future, it makes the most sense as a bluray player purchase. If you hook up the PS3 to a compatible AV amp with HDMI audio, you can get the new HD audio formats as well.

I have both machines and only own 1 game for my PS3 compared to 15 or so for Xbox 360. I did own a couple more PS3 launch titles but they were so poor I sold them. The PS3 will no doubt catch up games wise but as far as I can see if you like online gaming, Xbox live is the way to go. The Sony equivalent pales in comparison.

As I'm sure you're aware the Xbox 360 has had 'reliability issues' although the current machines are supposed to be relatively trouble free. One of my friends' machines broke down recently and he had it repaired free of charge within a fortnight. Microsoft have more or less acknowledged the problem and have taken steps both to rectify it and keep owners happy.

In the end, if it is ultimately for gaming, make sure you consider which of the exclusive titles you prefer as that may also sway your decision.

    I like both, sorry!

    Fixed it :)

360 gets my vote - more games, (imo) better games, more people have them (so better for multiplayer).
  • PS3 = Blu-Ray player. Good games console in about a year maybe.

Xbox360 = A games console with a large amount of games NOW. Games play as well as on the PS3 for a while too.

There you go, fixed it for you! ;)

Now the PS3 is cheaper I'd be tempted by one rather than an Xbox 360. From what I've read the Xbox 360 is likely to be replaced before the PS3 so you'd get more use out of the PS3 before it becomes old technology. For the time being though I'm happy with a Wii for fun games with the children and a PC for 'serious' games.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • 360 is a must. PS3 is not that good really ;)
