dish is too salty!

Can't believe I've done this. In true thrifty mode, I decided to make a huge pan of soup to do me two maybe three hearty lunches but when I tried a bowl today, I can only assume I salted it twice (or maybe even three times!)
I vaguely remember something about putting a peeled spud in the pot and it will absorbs the excess saltiness. Does anybody know if this is true and if it works? If it's all cobblers, does anyone have any rescue remedies? Thought I was being really god and have budgeted this week for this to be my lunches so I would like to salvage it if at all possible.
Thanks in advance all you fabbo peeps :j'The only thing that helps me keep my slender grip on reality is the friendship I have with my collection of singing potatoes'

I've added too much salt to soup in the past and have had to add more ingredients to make it eatable, but I only make the 'throw everything in' style of vegetable soup. You can certainly add potatoes, obviously they will make it much thicker. Add water too. Taste it carefully as you go along.:) HTHHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Potatoes will absorb some of the salt, you could always cook with some extra potatoes for half an hour, then remove them if you didnt want it to get too thick.0

Yes, potatoes will do the trick!TL0

yeah they always say to use potatoes but i think u remove them b4 eating soup as they will have absorbed the salt

yeah I do the potato trick too. I usually make veggie soup so I just leave it in. helps to thicken it too.x x x0

Potatoes are great for this, but take them out before serving. Swedes do the job just as well too. (Stick them in the freezer for the next batch of soup, and you won't need to salt it at all)

My helper( grandson) put too much salt in the guacamole. Can it be rescued?0

Try putting a raw potato into it and leave it for a while, it works for soup so it might work for Guacamole."As if by magic... the shopkeeper appeared."0
