"There are some great tips in Amy Dacyczyn book but I can't get my head around washing and reusing plastic sandwich bags"
Ive just brought that book. My kids granny does than. It must work as she has pots of money.!!
Thanks for your comments. I hadn't realised ther was another thread!!I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

Well done Molly on all your joint savings with your ex. I don't really blame him trying with the light because too much is disposable these days but obviously safety first. I'm getting really cross with trying to find good lampshades when it seems so common now to buy the base & stand altogether.
Strangely enough it was OS going OTT that spoiled the Martin Lewis programme for me last Friday. I thought the roadkill and bathwater people made the rest of us look eccentric and silly.0 -
I'm the kind of person who loves watching shows like the 1940's house and Coal house on tv, I look forward to winter so I can light my coal fire, i can't "settle" on the sofa unless I have a piece of knitting in my hands...
My most out of control OS habit is that I LOVE collecting vintage books and magazines. For the last 20 years I have collected cookery books, domestic guides, medical manuals, educational books etc and over 18 box files of magazines and knitting patterns from Victorian times to 1950's! I seem to be so stuck in the past that whenever I need a recipe or bit of advice I delve into these instead of looking for a modern solution - have I taken it all too far??? :eek:0 -
Noooo that sounds great, alot can be said for so called modern solutions; Debt, increase in illnesses from the use of chemicals, etc............ I like to look for the old fashioned solutions too, I think some may say I look through rose tinted spectacles!OS Grocery Challenge

Life is all about doing what makes you happy.
Not what others think - I would say good on youThe Summer Holiday of a Lifetime0 -
A lot of the traditional solutions to cooking and housekeeping issues and problems are cheaper, more effective and more environmentally friendly than modern ones so I say good for you! If it worked for my granny then it's good enough for me0

I'm another one who thinks what you're doing is great
Me and my OH are making a conscious effort to become more OS especially since I have been off work for a while through sickness and have recently found out I'm going to be made redundant
At first we were doing thing OS in an effort to save money (which has worked :money:) but as time has gone on, I'm finding that increasingly we are doing OS things because we want to :j

Sorry Mancbird you are to lose your job, but you are right, what started as a cost cutting excercise has become a habit and quite a good one I think.
Keep up the good work!0 -
I do think OS is a great way to be and very cost effective - it's lovely to see you don't think my slight (ahem) obsession with the past is too odd!
Mancbird - i'm sorry you have had a hard time of it lately and I hope 2010 turns out better for you, it great you're enjoying your OS experiences too0
