OMG! I've just cleaned the floor with one of our old terry nappies - and my youngest is 25! How [STRIKE]penny pinching[/STRIKE]/ old style is that! What do you use/ recycle like that?

Yep, my Mum still does the same! I'm nearly 28 and my sister is 25. My new flatmate thinks I'm nuts for washing out the plastic bags you freeze food in, so they can be reused. I thought everyone did it  Or maybe it's just my Mum :D

I wash out plastic bags and bread bags and re-use them.

As for terry nappies, they obviously don't make them like they used to! I used my terries on my first two children, then they went on to being used as hand towels, but they had worn completely thin before my youngest was born 4 years ago.

My mum still uses my son's old muslin nappies to make clootie dumplings. They were never used as nappies, just for general cloths. He's almost 25.

I had Harrington Gold terries for him. You used to be able to buy them singly. My aunt used to buy me a couple now and then, until I had a couple of dozen.

My daughter was laughing at me the other day. Apparently, I'm the only person she has heard of that wipes and reuses foil....

I have just 2 left!! used for son now 21!! i remember Harrington Gold terries they were the best! Shamed to say I used disposables for daughter now 13, had no choice but to use terries for the first 4. Can you still buy terry towel square nappies? all the ones I've seen have been weird shapes!

You can still buy the square terries. When I was pregnant with DD2 (now 4) I spent ages researching on the internet which nappies to buy. I think there is far too much choice now which makes it very difficult. I bought some shaped terries with velcro fastenings, and some cotton/hemp ones with a press stud fastening. The velcro doesn't last long, and neither type were as absorbent as the traditional flat ones, and they cost a lot more. I wish I'd just bought the ordinary terries, because at least they would have had a second life afterwards!

I did the same after DS1's Harrington terries were used for DS2....but my mum had several in her airing cupboard from when me & my brothers were small.....and little brother was 34 when she died!
