It seems you have still dismissed the Canaries, just wondered why?

The weather in spain will not be as good as the canaries.

I've had a quick look - and its ~£350 total for the flights to Lanzarote (and more for Tenerife) around the days that I can go (I can go for a week around Thursday 28th February -- Thursday 6th March). Although quite reasonable I don't have this much to spend on flights for this particular trip. The accommodation in Lanzarote looks quite reasonable too.......

My original idea of Menorca now seems a distant memory!!

Dont know where you looked or where from, I did a very quick search on thomson site...flights from Stansted to lanzarote on 2nd March were £ 98 each
  • Hi -- I'm flying from Manchester which bumps up the price quite a bit to like I say ~£350 total for 2 of us......shame really....

Alicante seems quite reasonable - which resorts / areas should I be looking at (excluding Benidorm!)...

Menorca has a short summer season. It's climate can be slightly harsher than its neighbours (Majorca, Ibiza). You will notice that the trees on menorca are all bent in the same direction due to prevailing winds (which don't occur in summer). That said you might hit lucky and get a good week. Given the choice I'd head for the Canaries for pretty much guaranteed mid twenties sunshine. C Del Sol and C Blanca would be next as both would offer a slightly more predictable spring like climate than the balearics.

we go to menorca most years - its is not a winter resort at all. They don't call it "windy island" for nothing. Even during the summer months it can be fairly windy. Most of the resorts (probably all of them) close down at the end of October. I would definitately not go during winter months (and I love it there!)
  • Thanks for your info gregg1. So Menorca is definitely out then.

I know I keep asking, but has anyone got any recommended places I go to Alicante? The flights from Manchester are pretty cheap - which areas are the best - are they easily accessible via Alicante airport?

I am a 'holiday in spain' novice so any pointers would be mush appreciated. :D
  • Depends what you want.
    Benidorm is chips and beer.
Javea and denia are pleasant family resorts, with yacht clubs and more spanish, although Javea has an enormous english expat community.

    Lots of flights to Malaga.

Fuengirola / Toremolino lots of appartments on line, still a bit chips and beer, but Benalmadena between them is a bit quieter.
Car hire is cheap out of season, and inland Andalusia is pleasant if you want more spanish culture.
Weather is generally th best in mainland Europe through the winter.
