Menorca - has anyone been in late February early March?

Hi all,
Has anyone ever been to Menorca during Feburary or March?. I'm intending to go with my OH for the last few days of February until the first week of March.
Whats it like at this time of year? Are most of the hotels closed? I know it is out of the holiday season but is it a place where I could go and relax for a few days without starving? Whats the weather like? Which part is the best at that time of year? Will we be the only ones on the island?!?
Any help would be appreciated....thanks everyone.
cheerio!

Dunno about Menorca I'm afraid but I would say that the Canary Islands are a lot further south so Weather should be better there......0

Went last year. Early July & it was very quiet, we thought. Very small island and we found it fine for a week's break. We booked on line with Thomsons (which we normally do) and we went Thomson Gold and got a great discount. If there's just the 2 of you, Gold would be great - no under 16's in hotel, so very peaceful and grown-up! No chicken nuggets/chips on menus, no noisy families/kids entertainers etc.
There is only one Thomson Gold hotel on Menorca and that's where we stayed. Arenal den Castell. (North) It is a bit dated to be honest (compared to other Gold hotels) but great view of the bay from room and nice pool, food, staff etc.
Do a search on weather for the year and see what you think!0 -
Thanks Pennylane - very helpful. :T
In February / March the weather doesn't look too bad..
Has anyone actually been in February / March though? I'm not expecting the pool, entertainment to be available (out of season) - but it would be nice to walk outside the hotel and grab something to eat in a restaurant etc...
Sorry if I sound a little naive - I've never really been away at this time of year. I'm more of a Thailand and Australia in November, South of France in July type of guy!!!
Any more advice?0 -
Not bad...18-20C on average in menorca in march...
so has no one else been at that time of year then?0 -
i've been to mallorca at all times of the year and it apparently has the same climate as menorca ....i would say that you are being incredibly optimistic to expect anything like those temperatures at the end of feb ...i'd be quite happy to get them at the end of april.
glad to see that you can now fly there out of season...have a great time0 -
Mahon is an all year round resort but the small resorts close down for the winter and don't open until May. My friend lives there in the summer but finds it too cold to be there all year round. Would suggest Canary islands as a better option for spring.0

Thanks everyone for the tips thus far...
I've re-checked the weather and your right it's not 'as warm' as that by any means. Which is no problem.
So if I were to go to Mahon for a week or so at the end of February (29th) - I'd be right in thinking that apart from the hotel itself, there would be places open (shops, restaurants, mariner etc) - I just wouldn't want to arrive and be surprised that everything is shut down apart from the hotel. We're not too fussed about beach weather, just want a a few days break away from the UK, somewhere where we haven't been before - and as I think Menorca is more of a sunny season destination I wasn't too sure whether going there out of season would be alright....
The prices aren't too bad either £160ish total for both of us for return flights - Manchester to Mahon. And I've seen some hotels in the Mahon area for around £160 for the days we need/want...So for a total of £320 is it worth popping over for the week??!?!
cheers for now. thanks for all the replies. much appreciated!

I have been off season sorry cant remember which month, or where to exactly but it was a smallish resort.
It was COLD WET and nowhere was open except our AI hotel.
Dont know anything about Mahon though.
You could prob get a deal similar to the canaries where it will be warmer and OPEN0
