Which payg sim should I get for my son

My son is almost 11, I have an old nokia 3310 or something similar which he takes out with him if he is going on an errand or to a friends. I need to get him a payg sim card and wondered which would be the best to get.

I looked at easymobile and it seems that text are 5p and xnet is 15p which seems fairly reasonable. Are there any better deals that I should be looking at. Not sure if I read it right but it seems to be saying join for £5 and get £10 credit.

  • Hi

There's a thread about Easymobile near this one, you're right, you do get £5 free to start with. Certainly it does look quite good if the phone is being used a lot.

If your son doesn't make too many calls, then it might be worth getting a PAYG on the same network as your own - this will save money if you have to call him and don't have inclusive/cross network minutes. (Easymobile uses the T-Mobile network.)

My husband and I are both with BTMobile, plenty of mins so thats not a problem. I did mean to look at BT to see if they do a sim only pack so will check them out and if not will probably go for easy mobile.

I know Virgin do 15p for the first five mins a day then 5 p thereafter but he will only use it once in a blue moon.

    O2

Basically £10.00 per month top up will get 300 texts and the £10.00 in call time or extra texts or one of their newer deals which for £10.00 per month you can get 100 free anytime, cross network minutes.

These deals are only if you buy the sims card online though. and if your lucky, O2 do regular deals where they give sims cards away for free

    Geo,

Thanks very much for that. I would imagine at this point that £10 would last my son about 3 -4 months. So I guess monthly top ups are not the way for us yet!!

I am assuming that you have to do a min of £10 per month to keep it going.

No, you only have to top up the £10 a month if you want to have the free texts/mins, so if you top up £10 the first month you would have free texts/mins and the second and/or third month he could use the £10 credit that he would have.

Little Kids should'nt be on the phone anyways. Give him 25p and tell him to use the Phone Box.

You'd need to make that 30p.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Which is precisely why I don't need lots of mins and texts, if you read my post you would see that this is for emergency use only or so we can contact him. Plus where we live there aren't any telephone boxes. He is only now getting a small taste of freedom, today is the only the second time that he has been allowed out on his own. I believe that we can't keep them wrapped up in cotton wool and most of his friends have been allowed to go accross the development to call for friends, we are having to allow him some freedom now or he would beome the butt of everyone's jokes.

I am still not totally comfortable with it, last night I had two of his school friends knock on the door at 9.45pm when he was already in bed.
