HIya,
I have £19 in Tesco stamps and £11.50 in vouchers. Roughly £20 on Boots card and have been saving £2 coins.
We only buy for the kids - 13 in all and a couple of adults.
Want to make my own cards too (from the kids so it doesn't matter if they're a bit ropey!)0 -
Great thread. Just what I need to keep me motivated.
I've got £6 supermarket savings stamps (aim £50) and £45 in a Santa savings account (aim £250). I looked into the post office Christmas one but I don't think it pays any interest - I'll try and check again to be certain.
Is there a 'Christmas for free' thread somewhere? I can't find it.0 -
I have already started saving for crimbo 08, always try to do it but never seems to happen! So this year i am putting £2 a day into a jar, then at the end of each month I am putting it into a high interest savings account.
So far so good anyway..... :T

can I join too? I'm just on a pension but doing my bit toward next Christmas. I've joined some survey and click sites, save nectar points for the food and will buy all the pressies from charity shops again this year. I try to think the way the recipient does, especially children - I find that quite easy as I'm practising for my own second childhood now
- ie last year I bought a grandson a pair of binoculars, a bird spotters book and a make-it-yourself bird nesting box at different charity shops for a total of £6.20p. He was thrilled, spent more time with them than the new DS game he got from his parents! I save paper for smaller gifts from bouquets, paper bags, 'make' paper from pictures/patterns on the computer matching the theme to the gift or the person. When I buy anything on special offer or reduced I put the savings into my penny jar then into a savings account when it reaches £5. It doesn't sound much but I seem to make quite a lot of trips to the bank...
Wendy+5 cards made by the children are precious, they NEVER look ropey! Better a home-made card from a child than a half-hearted one from an adult!0 -
sparrer ofcourse you can join in! Anyone can! I did wonder too if I should change the thread title to Xmas prepation but thought saving would attract more people
Well done on saving and squirrilling away already everyone!
I'll be way behind schedule this year as we get married in May and I won't be putting anything by for christmas until we're through that - hohum!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Had a Boots voucher arrive from Pigsback yesterday, so there's another £10 in the pot.
Also had a couple of charity shop bargains - a FatFace wallet and toiletry hanger, both new with tags, for £2 each - will do perfectly for one of the teenagers/younger adults, and knowing FatFace should have been about £10 eachDFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
I used to wing it at Christmas but a few years ago the council (my employer) set up a credit union. I now have savings taken directly out of my wages every month - £110 to the main account and £45 to the Chrirtmas account. So for the last 3 years I have had £500 cash each December for pressies etc.
I am helping to put two if my DCs through uni with loans from the credit union at the monent but as they insist that you save while you pay it off so only £89 of the £110 each month covers the loan and I still save £21. I have about £1200 in that a/c and the loan will be paid off in June.
It's fairly painless.
I have also started putting £2 a week on to an Asda Christmas saving card.
My DH has 2 interviews tomorrow for jobs (redundant last July but luckily has been able to find temp jobs) I am in a decent job but the mortgage is mega.
Still at the worst I at least have a cushion to fall back on or Christmas to look forward to:rotfl:0 -
Has anyone seen details of the new Post Office Christmas Savings Card scheme yet? Can't seem to find anything on their web site. I think it should be available sometime this month.'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0
