Icemaiden wrote:Anyway also whislt there noticed the Croft Indulgence Port, which by the way is beautiful, was reduced from £8.99 to £5.99 so bought 4 bottles, a saving of £12.00:j 1 x Mums hamper, 2 x general crimbo drinking, 1 x now;)
Thanks in advance.
Ice.
I was in there today but didn't see the Port. My Dad loves M&S own brand.Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0 -
Icemaiden wrote:On my way to town popped into tesco and they have a 7inch square cake tin for £4.97, double coated, quite deep, 10year guarantee. Does this sound ok? or would you go for a better quality one?
My medium quality survived my daughter's Christmas cake destroying phase...
here's how it goes.
we owned a 1940's Monk's bench, the sort you can have with the lid in place, as a table-like surface, or the lid pushed back, to form the back support of a double seat. I used it in the kitchen as a settle, or an extra surface.
I put the cake, still in it's tin, on the monk's bench (as table surface) to cool. My daughter came in, sniffing the air, and leaned on the monk's bench to fully inhale the christmas cake aroma. In doing so, she placed her weight on the hinged side of the surface, swiftly levering the bench's back into seated position, and catapulting the cake (in tin) across the kitchen.
The tin was eventually reformed into roughly its original square shape, the cake had to be pushed into shape, and held together with marzipan.
My daughter is now 23, and we're still using the cake tin, so less than top quality is O.K. in my book. I do like to buy the best I can afford at any given time, but I kind of owe this tin one.

i am no expert but till someone else comes along what i did to feed the xmas cake was !!!!! holes in the base and spoon whisky into it , should be brandy i think, you do this a few times and yes the cake will keep no bother in fact it will mature, i used towrap mine in greaseproof paper and tin foil and keep it in a tin, you dont ice and marzipan it till nearer xmas
in fact long ago it used to be the custom to keep the top tier of your wedding cake for the christening, i kept mine for quite a while0 -

Hi i want to make an effort this year also, making hampers for everone and making cakes and puddings, hubby normally takes charge on dealing with cooking for christmas day but i want to get involved too!;)
Think 9 is a bit young to realise santa doesnt exist even if you dont tell her, i didnt find out til i was 13 i think when i first went to high school and everyone was saying santa was not real etc, not long after i found pressies in my mums cupboard!! felt so upset:eek:
Soon got over it though, as the cupboard was mine for the taking!LOL:rotfl:0 -

someones bound to say something, shes been here before if you get what i mean,
last year she wanted to know why i had the same wrapping paper as the pile of presents from santa
got wise to that now, i have bought lots of different styles:Dthe more people i meet!! the more i like my dog !!0 -
