We never had stockings when we were children. We received one gift from Santa & a couple from Mum & Dad. I never gave my kids any either. I don't ever recall anyone that I knew or relations getting stockings. I would have, as I WOULD have wanted one too.
My grandson is 7 months old now so maybe I could start a new tradition. I've never really thought of the stocking idea. Thanks.:A
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
I've told my DD (who's 4) that Santa doesn't bring stockings for Mummy's and Daddys so thats why we make one for Daddy and her and Daddy make one for Mummy - maybe this year I might get one that I didn't make up myself. I always buy the choc coins myself and I've also bought myself a small gift to go in it as well but I can't say what it is as other people are getting one as well :shhh:
What I have done is set a £50 limit each (including stocking fillers) for DD, OH and myself and I've already taken off the price of choc coins and the other pressie and told OH that his budget for me is £45+. I've also been dropping major hints to DD as in taking her shopping in Asda to the clothes bit and saying "See those slippers over there, I'd REALLY like a pair like that, not those or those. Now can you remember that to tell daddy?" :rotfl::D:p Great thing is shes finally old enough to go shopping with OH and say "Mummy wants...." added bonus is that she is an Ol' Styler in training so she also has some idea about looking around for the cheaper price :rotfl: and quite often says "I'll have that one because its less pennies, then I have money left to get the other one as well" :TCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
We told OH's daughters that they're sorting themselves out this year as far as pressies for their Dad is concerned. They also seem to have taken that to mean that they have to sort out presents for each other out themselves too. No problem for us....we're not going to complain if that is what they want to do....save pennies for a bowling trip
Slowing putting OH's pressies together. So far I've spent £10 of my £25 limit. So I've got £15 left. Planning on making a promise jar for him...at some point when he isn't around to stick his rather large nose in. There are a couple of other things that he wants...that I might be able to afford with the help of a voucher here or there. However, he might buy them himself...so I have to wait until December really before I can plan that. However its nothing that will surprise him...no wow, or funny factor.
One of the daughters told us last night that her ex step dad is going to get her a mobile phone for Xmas. Sigh. Guess what we've got in the cupboard! Not going to change the plans though....or not at the moment anyway. She's had 3 phones this year so far, so it'll get used eventually. She has started asking for keyboards, guitar (electric of course)...and she still expects to get some Xmas money to spend. She was told that if she wanted to buy herself an electric guitar with her Xmas money she can do so. Didn't really say a lot after that.
Other daughter hasn't said much ...except for PC upgrade & Sims 2 Nightlife. We replaced our PC a few months ago...so guess what she's getting (no prizes here).
Everything else is generally bargains picked up through these boards, so we haven't really spent a lot so far, but excluding the big pressies, they aready have a good sized carrier bag full of stuff each.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

I have been buying bits to make a small stocking for sister and sister in law. Making a larger version for mil. I am going to make wheat bags to bulk out the prezzies a bit too. bought my mum and dad a duvet last week as it was something that they wanted so I am now just going to wrap some toffee or something from ds to open at christmas. DS fetched a letter home last week from cubs about scout camp next summer. £30 deposit needed for sunday and a further £30 before the end of January so I have told ds that that is to be part of his christmas present.
DS is 8 and still believes in Santa. He believes that mums and dads send money to santa to get things that the elves have not had time to make! The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0 -
for those of you who like hawkins bazaar, i'd highly recommend CITY OF MARVELS (especially the stocking fillers sections under "girl and boy" ) :Tknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

Been lurking on this thread for a bit, just wanted to say IM AMOST DONE!!! :j Have wrapped all the pressies, posted the ones for abroad and will be popping down later to the hospice charity shop to get my chrimbo tree.
Thanks for the loads of inspiration from here, today (Im off work) I'll be making christmas cards for close friends and family and enjoying the glow of having practically no chrimbo shopping left to do (apart from perishables).
