Its called leaving an open network or hotspot (not one of the paid hotspots you get in places like Starbucks) and its about encryption rather than passwords.
without encryption not only can people access the Bb but they can also see what ever you broadcast via the wireless network, if they have the right equipment and a bit of know how.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -

I finally got Visa to chargeback my money, Special Reserve were so cross they told me I was banned. I had to emergency-buy MP3 player at full price from Dixons so was not very happy either.I ♥ MSE0 -

Roger_Rampant wrote:Oh that's interesting, maybe I've misunderstood. I was told to buy one of those little aerial type things to plug in the back of my PC or my latop, then scan to see if anybody's local wireless broadband connection would let me use it, because they hadn't set a password....
WEP is totally hacked. You can run progs and decrypt the key in seconds!!

Not really. Reading that article makes me even more convinced that wired networking is better than wireless
EDIT: maybe I need to explain myself a little better here. When I moved into my current house I didn't have internet access, and one of my work colleagues pointed out that instead of paying to have broadband installed I could just spend a tenner on the aerial to plug into the back of my PC, then use somebody else's broadband service
This has nothing to do with me wanting to be a hacker, or send spam, or anything nefarious like that. It was just a work colleague suggesting a way of saving me the cost of paying for broadband myself. I could effectively surf the internet at somebody else's expenseThanks to all who post constructively.

Wired Networking OF COURSE is betta!
Wireless is Poo Poo.
I am thinking about buying one of these but will wait and see in America first as everything PC wise is cheaper there.0 -
Cheaper than ten quid delivered? :rolleyes:Thanks to all who post constructively.
