I have the information on how the letter was sent out from the police. What I needed was proof of postal problems to take to court. RM now know when the letters were sent by the police, I'm just waiting to hear the results of the investigation, and for copies of my complaints.

Wait a minute, was this supposed to have happened during the postal strike? The lawyer I mentioned, said at the time the police reasonably could not expect the NIPs to be served during that period, and that they should have taken appropriate steps to ensure delivery.

    Worth fighting for IMHO.

If that was the case no one would ever get prosecuted for speeding, ever.
Not true, you missed the point, You said the "police believed you" in most cases the police would never admit to such. With the police on your side there would have been no case to answer...** except see below
The original NIP went to the company I work for, the second one came to me.
Except for this bit of info which was never given on the thread until this point. If the original NIP was delivered within 14 days to the registered keeper (your employer) then you were quite right to accept the points and penalty fine. Because this would make the offence enforceable subject to the time limits for laying down,,, but that gets too complicated and messy and might aswell pay up and get it over with.... you did the right thing, for the wrong reasons. :D

I find a lot of discussions go on far to in depth, the OP was caught speeding, the NIP got lost in the post, they summon him for ignoring it, he contests, says I was driving and I did the crime, he pays his fine and accepts he did wrong.

    Case Closed

He could try to contest whether the fine is still enforceable but he decided not to thus saving the rest of us tax payers money, I for one would like to offer a hearty handshake to the OP for being a decent citizen.

Or alternatively, for rolling over and playing dead.

MS90 is a serious charge and rightly so, far bigger things than speeding can be hidden behind an MS90 such as failing to stop after a hit and run. When you are on the other side of a hit and run stood in the gallery watching the RK of a car's solicitor accepting 3 points (as it was then) then maybe you will take a different view.

Personally I think 6 points is not enough, but also ALL served notices should be recorded delivery to stop miscarriages via RM not delivering. It is stupid that 1st class posting is deemed to be served as clearly recorded delivery is there for a reason.
