The bank of scotland its only a basic cash card account and 2 savings account but nothing in all 3 accounts tho but i have been with them for over 10years now.

I can't see any need to close the Bank Of Scotland accounts, why bother? If you have been with them over 10 years, keep them open, may come in handy one day, especially with all the hassle opening new accounts recently due to the change in identity theft laws.

reason i asked is tho its only basic accounts tho and like i said before am looking for a fresh clean start. Will keep them open anyway but very unlikly i will use them tho. rather start a new slate.

cause with the bank of scotland i have had a current account b4 / loans / overdrafts / mortgage all with them so they know all my history etc and I feel if i stay with them and sort my debt out am not 2 sure they would offer me a current account in say 6 months tho?

One thing which is good is there online banking and also get a debt card. Thats what the down side is with TSB tho i only get a cash card for there machines only. and some towns am in or petrol stations i would prefer to have a links card so can withdrawl from any machine

advice would be good. getting a bit confused here

But surely the Driving Licence is not the only means of ID? Aren't there other options?

what you need is proof of address and different ID for name. Well i have a bank statement for address but you need either passport or drivers licence to provide the other ID

What do you think? worth changing account of stick with current bank and see what they can do for me in 6 months time?

I've had a basic account with Halifax for about 5 years now and recently tried to upgrade it to a normal current account but they turned me down! I know my credit rating is less than perfect but Barclays have given me a credit card so I was a bit peeved that Halifax wouldn't upgrade my account. They've seen how much money goes in & out so they've got 5 years of income, spending & saving history.

I think that's shocking anguk, how dreadful to be with a bank for 5 years, handle your money well and be refused. Sorry to hear the news, hope you find a bank that will give you a chance soon.

Not that weird, Halifax weren't handling your day to day finances like Bank of Scotland. Always best to go to a lender you don't bank with if you have money problems with your everyday bank.
