But as others bid, you still stay the top bidder as you have 'offered' to pay up to £1000 for the item (eBay will not disclose this to the seller, and they are obliged to sell at the highest bid).
So say at the last minute someone jumps in at £150, you'll still come out on top at £155 (say) and win. I guess people are wary of ending up paying too much but the key is stick in how much you are actually willing to pay and let the auction run. Quite simply, if you're willing to pay more than others, eBay will let you have it at the lowest possible amount that's more than their bids.
That's the fool's way to eBay..
To get a bargain, you need to place your maximum bid at the last second (literally). Bidding any earlier than this simply serves to increase the final selling price, making the winner (which could be you) pay more than needed.0 -

no s!*t sherlock, i kinda figured that!!
i have been bidding around the 180 mark depending on what is available with the phone, i may bid more if mem card included etc. i always enter the highest amount i am willing to pay on my first bid, i never go through the auction bidiing again and again everytime im outbid ... i know what i am doin, trust me. i just seem to miss out by a couple of quid at the last 10seconds of the auction, which reswults in me not having a chance to bid again0
